I think many of us come here for some fellowship with like minded conservative allies and it makes us happy to see that we are not alone.
But, over the years I have noticed something that seems amiss to me, which is the lack of responses to people who have expressed their opinion.
Many is the time that I see a comment to which no one has replied; a situation in which no one responds to a Freeper who has expressed an opinion.
I think most, if not all of us, would likely enjoy an acknowledgement that people have read our comment and agree with it, or even that people have read it and disagree with it! (So that we can have an argument, which is something we contrarians tend to enjoy! :) )
I urge people to respond to comments from other Freepers, especially if that comment is directed at you. I encourage Freepers to acknowledge the people who have posted a message to you, because we all want to believe our opinions matter and are worthy of consideration.
At the very least give them a "+1" (which means "UpVote") to indicate you've read their comment and agree with it. A more thoughtful reply is even better!
Let people know you care what they think and are not indifferent to their existence.
Not only should this boost the amount of traffic on Free Republic, it should encourage a happier more pleasant experience for all participants. It may even lead to more people wanting to join Free Republic!
I heard three types of people, those who can count and those who can't.
I don't know anything about "Reddit". I presume from your comment, that this would be a bad thing?
What is the downside of upvotting and downvotting? I've seen it on other websites. I've got something like 43,000 "upvotes" on one of them.
I think they are kinda like monopoly money. They aren't really good for anything, but you can have fun getting them.
Downvotes? I've got plenty of those too, but they are way outnumbered by my upvotes.
I think "upvotes" are an acknowledgment of sorts that other people saw some bit of merit in something you have said.
I think that makes most people a tiny bit happier.
“Be Kind to your fellow Freeper.”
I will be kind if Laz will be kind.
Did you know Laz and me are twins?

I've never completely understood what "Bump To The Top" means.
Does it come from websites where upvotes moves your comment higher in the thread?
I can see some benefit to doing that too. It allows the best comments to rise to the top.
I encourage everyone to donate to Free Republic.
It doesn’t mean anything much to me when I receive no responses; I just assume that people have nothing particular to say about what I posted. And when I don’t respond, it doesn’t mean I’m ignoring anyone; I just have nothing particular to say.
But the outright and often vulgar insults I see here, when people simply disagree with another’s opinion, are upsetting. I think suggesting that we refrain from those would be a lot more useful than encouraging the posting of a perfunctory ‘+1’.
:)
That's pretty good.
Me too!
Yes. Exactly. If people don't respond, one has to wonder if they even saw your message or if they chose not to read it.
At least with some sign that you have been heard, you can feel like the conversation is complete.
Exactly. On other websites, after I have read a comment and I have nothing I can think of to add to it, I simply upvote them so that they know I read what they said and I agree with it, but have nothing further to add.
Apologies — was a general call; did not intend to single you out by any means.
I’ve seen it, and I can only advise others to learn to love a good fight! This is the internet, and people should not take so seriously what they read from disembodied text on the internet.

Of course we do. Huh?
Okay, that genuinely made me laugh.
Opportunity must present itself. Years ago I got banned from a website because people took issue with me saying that if I ever got the chance, I would punch George Stephanopolous in the nose.
People asked me why I just didn't do it? I said it was because he lives in New York, and I am over a thousand miles from there, plus I would never try something like that in a City so crazy insane as New York, where they would throw the book at you for just disagreeing with their political views.
Where I live, it would have been a $300.00 fine, but in New York, I'd probably get prison or some other stupid sh*t.
Nah, I have to have an opportunity that doesn't require me to pay an excessive cost for expressing myself in this manner.
And George still needs a punch in the nose. So does a whole bunch of other News-liars out there.
Yewwwwwwww. Hopefully not turgid as well. 😂👍
Ahem, don't forget your friends in the swamp where the weather is very very damp!
Yeah, but I think to do that would require a *LOT* of rewriting of code.
I know there is a ‘find responses’ link, so the data is there
There are so many things I have posted on Free Republic that I wish I could find again, but I learned a long time ago that it is near impossible to do a meaningful data search on Free Republic to find the relevant information I want.
It is always drowned out by non-related messages that somehow share a search term.
It adds a little bit of functionality and encouragement.
FR UI is so outdated...this would be a welcome addition imo.
I think so too, but then, *I* don't have to re-write the code to create that functionality! :)
