Please help me, as I am not tech-savvy.
I have been using Messages+ for quite a while for texting with my Android phone. Verizon is now informing me that this app will be discontinued, and I am being nudged toward replacing it with a Google app.
Tried researching other choices, but I don't know how to judge what is a good replacement.
My phone is a Galaxy S21.
Suggestions?
I got this notice today as well. Not excited about google
Something secure like Signal?
Messages v 15.2..40.7 is on my S21
Texting Apps List
Based on the provided search results, here is a comprehensive list of texting apps mentioned:
Viber
Pulse SMS
Textra SMS
Chomp SMS
Google Messages (formerly Android Messages)
TextMagic
Textedly
DialMyCalls
Wickr Me
Telegram
Signal
Kik
TextFree
Note that this list may not be exhaustive, as the search results only covered a specific set of articles and reviews. However, this list represents a diverse range of popular texting apps across various platforms, including Android and iOS.
Signal was one of the choices I saw in my search, but I have no way of judging whether it’s good or bad. Can you help, please?
Signal
Carrier pigeon, of course… :-)
Thank you, but how do I determine which one to choose? I am so lost.
I remember seeing somewhere quite a while back that WhatsApp is very hackable.
Use Telegram. The despotic powers that be in the West want to ban it because it offers user privacy.
2nd Signal.

Its neither good nor bad. Its a messaging app that encrypts. The message can only be read by the sender and the receiver. (Who knows if NSA can crack it or not). The only way for someone to see the conversation is if they get your device or the recipients device and the messages have not been deleted afterwards.
I’m confused. Most of those listed are not texting apps per se they are social media type apps. Your phone doesn’t support SMS messages? Or do you mean for long distance messaging. WhatsApp is popular around the world for making long distance phone calls and texts via internet VOIP - so it doesn’t cost long distance carrier charges. I am not too familiar with all of them but I’d go with WhatsApp. It is however owned by Facebook.
Me too. I’m very hesitant to open or download anything that is unsolicited by my request. It seems hinky and amateurish.
Signal app is great. Very secure (supposedly). https://signal.org/
I like it because I can text from my phone and my desktop. Everything is duplicated (if desired). I hate typing on my phone, but you do what you gotta do.
I’ve had good luck with textra
Most of those apps listed below require the other person to also have the same app on their phone to work. It’s not the same as SMS messages which are pretty universal on all devices. Comes with the operating system. I don’t know what Verizon messenger is.
