Trump Is an Open Book for Closed Minds
The New York Times ^ | Sept. 25, 2024 | Thomas B. Edsall

Posted on 09/25/2024 8:24:55 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

The mystery of 2024: How is it possible that Donald Trump has a reasonable chance of winning the presidency despite all that voters now know about him? Why hasn’t a decisive majority risen up to deny a second term to a man in line to be judged the worst president in American history?

The litany of Trump’s liabilities is well known to the American electorate. His mendacity, duplicity, depravity, hypocrisy and venality are irrevocably imprinted on the psyches of American voters.

Trump has made it clear that in a second term he will undermine the administration of justice, empower America’s adversaries, endanger the nation’s allies and exacerbate the nation’s racial and cultural rifts.

John Podhoretz, in a 2017 Commentary article, “Explaining Trump’s Charlottesville Behavior,” offered up one piece of the puzzle, addressing the question, “Whose early support for Trump itself played a key role in leading others to take him seriously and help propel him into the nomination?”

Podhoretz’s prescient answer: a conspiracy-oriented constituency with little regard for truth:

If there’s one thing politicians can feel in their marrow, even a non-pol pol like Trump, it’s who is in their base and what it is that binds the base to them. Only in this case, I’m not talking about a base as it’s commonly understood — the wellspring of a politician’s mass support. I’m talking about a nucleus — the very heart of a base, the root of the root of support. Trump found himself with 14 percent support in a month. Those early supporters had been primed to rally to him for a long time.”

In a word: Schadenfreude!

The NYT is so demented, it's entertaining. And one likes to watch them verbally squirm in agonized frustration when they collide with reality and refuse to face the fact that it's reality. . .

And bump their fool heads again!

I mean, right!?!?! After all the left has said about J6 and threats to democracy, how can we possibly not accept their gospel? What’s wrong with everyone not living in Manhattan?!!?

The arrogance is astounding.

I am going to put it very simply.

Trump does not hate us.

And you do.

Trump may do me some damage by accident.

You and the people you support will do it deliberately laughing all the way.

Why wouldn't I support Trump?

How is it possible that Donald Trump has a reasonable chance of winning the presidency despite all that voters now know about him?

Well, we want lower prices, lower inflation, less regulation, lower taxes, MUCH MUCH MUCH less spending, less weaponized government, less slush money going to Ukraine, and someone who isn't afraid to tap to the American people (even after facing multiple assassination attempts. Someone who will answer questions plainly, and not with constant empty talking points. It should be pretty easy for any rational adult to figure out... but you're a gaslighting liar for the DNC, so we could never expect anything like that from you.

Why hasn’t a decisive majority risen up to deny a second term to a man in line to be judged the worst president in American history?

Just another lie. His 3 years in office were rather good for almost all Americans, and he handled the Covid disaster far better than any Democrat Governor did... most especially by leaving it to the states to deal with as they saw fit. Authoritarians and Democrats (but I repeat myself) would have declared emergency powers over every aspect of life, and retained it for years and years (as they did in many ways anyway).

First question for Thomas B. Edsall.

Who is your contact at the CIA?

The mental illness in Edsel is huge. But then, he is a perfect example of the Left: mentally ill, oblivious to reality and fact and living deep inside their corrupt bubble.

This Thomas Edsall is the nephew of John Tileston Edsall, a noted protein scientist and professor at Harvard University:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_B._Edsall

I knew John Edsall when I was at Harvard! He looked old and always said “yes, yes, yes”, so I thought he had dementia. But he was really not as old as he looked, and was still doing research and publishing papers! So I was very wrong.

Nevertheless, Thomas Edsall is just a NYT hack, and his article is total worthless nonsense!

And now there is an organized group of Harvard students who openly support Donald Trump! And prominent Harvard alumnus and millionaire donor Bill Ackman openly supports Trump. Then there is leading Congress member and Harvard alumna Elise Stefanik—a strong Trump supporter.

There are probably numerous other Harvard (and MIT) affiliates who support Trump, but are not so upfront about it. After all, it’s stupid to support kamala!
