‘One pistol clip can change the balance of power’: Congress is wholly unprepared for a mass casualty event
Politico ^

Over the past 15 years, members of Congress have survived two near-deadly shootings, a train crash with dozens of them on board, and a Capitol riot that had hundreds of lawmakers fearing for their lives.

Despite those incidents, the institution is wholly unprepared for a catastrophic event that kills or incapacitates multiple members — even if that hypothetical tragedy results in a major power shift: changing which party holds the majority in the House or Senate.

(snip)

Right now, the main idea to address the issue is a constitutional amendment that would require members of the House to submit a list of at least five possible successors to be tapped in the event of their death. If any member dies in office, the state’s governor would select an individual from the list to serve on a temporary basis until officials hold a special election for a permanent replacement.

(snip)

Opportunities to address the issue — known in congressional parlance as “continuity of government” — have come and gone over the past quarter century.

Congress is considering drastic steps———including a Constitutional Amendment——— that would allow for the direct appointment of House representatives in the event of mass vacancies.

According to the Constitution, any emerging vacancies in the House must be filled through elections, unlike Senate vacancies which can be filled by appointment. Changes being considered in the proposed constitutional amendment include replace of members quickly and change various lines of succession in a “national crisis.”

Continuity of Govt (COG) issues at this stage are interesting. After 9/11, a law was enacted to enable rapid elections if over 100 House seats are vacant—supposedly to keep the government running as smoothly as possible by expediting the process.

Some see that these proposed changes can also be used to abruptly remove congress critters in the face of a ‘disaster’ and replaced. Lead by democrats, no doubt there is subterfuge behind the actions.

Things would be a lot better if there were no Demonicrats in the three branches of the federal government. It wouldn’t be the best, because there would still be RINOcrats, but it would be a lot better.

If not for the 17th amendment the states could just appoint a new senator.

A common cheap US made 8 shot revolver did more damage to the USA on June 05, 1968 when a PALESTINIAN IMMIGRANT shot Bobby Kennedy. We are still reeling from what happened then.
The Democrats used it as a launching pad to ban FOREIGN MADE cheap handguns and 5 shot bolt action army surplus rifles.

No “clips” involved.

Iver Johnson made alot of revolvers back in the day. My grandfather had two pearl gripped .32 revolvers, he lost one hunting rabbit. He had a couple other off brand ones, with the point at the end of the hammer, they looked quite cheap.

This is just more fodder from leftists that has implications that conservatives are going to do something to attempt to destroy democracy as they know it, even though we are a Republic.

Amendment(s) - ha! Their most popular effort in recent history, the Equal Rights Amendment (for women) had a huge constituency of supporters, went through the rounds of states over nearly a 10 year period and STILL did not pass. This won’t, either. Neither will dissolution of the Electoral College, banning firearms, etc.

Ships aren't built in a month.

Once, this country could do much better than a month, actually.

https://www.historytools.org/stories/the-liberty-ships-unsung-heroes-of-world-war-ii

In example of the fastest time, one liberty ship was built in less than 5 days. Overall production over the LS lifetime throughout the war was 42 days average.

“Are they really worried about people with Broomhandle Mausers?”

I suspect it’s the 1912 Steyr Hahn they are worried about. Much more concealable.

They are just setting the stage. Instead of a phony fedsurrection, this time they are planning to kill multiple members of Congress and render certifying the election impossible for months. This article is to plant that idea.

Don’t know but them opening the border wide open and letting all those hardcore terrorists in from war torn countries is going to bite them in the ass! And I really don’t think the American people would give a damn or shed one tear anyways! So …C’est la vie!

That statement you quoted along with “pistol clips” was enough to make me barf.

The Capitol people put up with riots and protests all the time. Why is is they only feared for their lives this once? Could it be they felt guilty over something and feared retribution? A retribution that was never intended and never happened, but the protesters were considered insurrectionists anyway and put in dungeons.

“pistol clip”

What is it? Is that when you take a wire cutter and clip away little chunks off a pistol and make little clips?

Certain rifles have clips, I own two of them. They are used to load magazines. Never heard of a pistol using them.

"C96 (Broom Handle) Mausers and perhaps a few other "deadly weapons of war" come to mind."
Yes, and the M1 Garand I was issued in the army was fed with a "stripper clip." However, I think the author was referring ignorantly to a detachable magazine.
