I was born in Springfield, Ohio. My wife, Fran, and I have lived our entire lives less than 10 miles from this city.
When we were dating in high school, we would go there to see movies at the Regent or State Theater or to eat fried clams at Howard Johnson’s. I remember Fran taking the bus about eight miles from our hometown, Yellow Springs, to Springfield to shop at Wren’s Department Store. Over the years, we’ve eaten countless doughnuts from Schuler’s Bakery, worshiped at St. Raphael Catholic Church and we logged many work hours there when I represented Springfield in the U.S. House and Senate.
Springfield has a rich history of providing refuge for the oppressed and being a place of opportunity. As a stop on the Underground Railroad, the Gammon House, which still stands, was a safe haven for escaped slaves seeking freedom. And, as a stop on the Old National Road, America’s first east/west federal highway, Springfield attracted many settlers both before and after the Civil War. Immigrants from Ireland, Greece, Germany, Italy and other countries helped build the city into what it is today.
For a long time, commerce and manufacturing flourished in Springfield, which earned the title “Champion City” after the founding there of the agriculture implement giant Champion Machine Company.
But the city hit tough times in the 1980s and 1990s, falling into serious economic decline as manufacturing, rail commerce and good-paying jobs dwindled. Now, however, Springfield is having a resurgence in manufacturing and job creation. Some of that is thanks to the dramatic influx of Haitian migrants who have arrived in the city over the past three years to fill jobs.
They are there legally. They are there to work.

“The issue is the overwhelming number of invaders dumped in one place” in ONE MOMENT!
His examples are absolutely ludicrous and deflection. The runaway slaves were transient and passing through town. The other examples are for slow, organic growth by immigrants with at least common European culture and religious backgrounds, people who wanted to assimilate and become Americans.
The Haitians were dumped in ONE TOWN by our GD government under cover of darkness, absolutely overwhelming public services. They lack basic knowledge of a functioning, orderly society.
And they are there TEMPORARILY and have to leave. Where is the compassion in bringing them here, getting them jobs, then in a year or two telling them “You have to go home now, your stay is up”?
” Over the years, we’ve eaten countless doughnuts from Schuler’s Bakery, worshiped at St. Raphael Catholic Church”
He went on to say “And don’t forget!! Our neighbors were all proud of their beautiful green lawns.”
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, former US Senator from Ohio, former Attorney General of Ohio, former this and that and NEVER TRUMPER! Little Mike made a lot of footprints of his own in Haiti. He has unclean hands. Scroll Google and find child trafficking and pillaging of the poorest country in our hemisphere. A true villan

Suggest he visit Springfield Ohio to acquaint himself with his state and what the current Washington regime has been doing to it He sounds like he’s totally disconnected from reality. Or wishes us to be.
Why did they leave Springfield? Why must Springfield be a "stop" on their way to somewhere else? Did you not want them there? Why not?
They are there legally.
"Legally" insofar as our corrupt President shipped them in. They did not go through the normal refuge process, they were treated special.
They are there to work.
No they aren't. That's a lie. They are there to collect welfare and other free money from the government. They bring nothing to America we want or need. They are just more parasites existing on the back of the taxpayers and productive people in America.
Governor, escapees from Haiti are NOT runaway slaves. Our citizens and legal residents are NOT responsible for their feeding, housing and upkeep.
Charity freely given should be used to help them, but not forced charity in the form of tax money.
The Swamp Filth owns the media. The media is just an organ that the government plays.
I’m glad that he wants to help Haitians and I’d like to believe that he sees it as his Christian duty.
But why would anyone think it’s a good idea to take a town of 40000 and increase the population by 50% with immigrants.
I mean was it a depopulated ghost town?
And was it just misguided charity, or does his family benefit from this?
He says they are filling jobs did this town have a worker shortage of 10 or 20,000 people?
Doesn’t Ohio have any unemployed who needed jobs?
Was the town asked did they want 20k immigrants?
Soneone really needs to take a good look at DeWine’s Haiti charity...
Every such mistake costs actual votes at the ballot box. Trump has made another unforced error.
And if they did so, in reasonable numbers, they'd likely find a welcome. Our people in general are kind and generous.
Wherever they go, they should be housed as near the "elite" as possible.
Get lost troll.
Other the the Clinton’s, how many other American politicians run a Haiti charity?
At least he is identifying himself as part of the problem. Vote him out.
“You Lying Sack of RINO Crap. RETIRE, QUIT, but mainly STFU!!!”
It’s our fault, (Ohio voters). We didn’t primary this pos, so we get what we asked for.
If there is such a need for more workers in Springfield wages would go up for the townsfolk and nearby communities - unless you import 20,000 unemployed people, in which case you get wage deflation and almost every worker ends up making less money.
DeWine’s spin job is just nonsensical. It is bad policy no matter which way you look at it.
I WOULD WAGER $$$$$ THAT DeWINE & OTHER OHIO POLITICIANS ARE NOT AWARE OF MUCH GOING ON IN BROAD DAYLIGHT IN THEIR STATES.
He subscribes to Dumbya’s “Doing the jobs Americans won’t do.” Yeah they won’t do the jobs if they pay peanuts.
He is also term limited, so the full RINO is coming out. Lame Dick RINO!!!!
I think the Gov and Springfield’s mayor are fine examples of the Chamber of Commerce Republicans that Rush used to reference. Very big on immigration/ cheap labor. They probably loved them some Yeb Bush.
