Tua Tagovailoa (Concussion) Officially Placed On Injured Reserve Effectively Putting An End To Miami Dolphins’ Season

That’s a wrap, folks!

Superstar quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was officially placed on injured reserve Tuesday by the Miami Dolphins, this coming after he suffered yet another concussion during his team’s “Thursday Night Football” defeat against the Buffalo Bills.

With the move, Tagovailoa has to stay on IR for a minimum of four contests, according to NFL rules. As Tua gets back to health, the Dolphins currently have no plans for how long exactly they will have the 26-year-old on injured reserve.

Throughout his career in the National Football League, Tagovailoa has had three diagnosed concussions.

Mike McDaniel, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, spoke Monday and stated that injured reserve wouldn’t be in Tagovailoa’s future until they become more aware of the situation. Well, that must’ve happened Tuesday, because he was placed on IR after evaluations were done.

Miami is cooked for a bit. Here is a link to a description of Tua's contract and the options and associated costs for each scenario of ending it. It's a complicated mess for certain. They really need to reach out to Tom Brady as a quick fix.

The Pats wanted to make Tim into another position player other than a QB. He said he only wanted to play QB. Which led to the fact that nobody wanted him because he could not throw accurately.

There are a lot of NFL players that are former QBs. Many are made into slot receivers and tight ends if they are big enough. Which can lead to great Flea Flicker type plays where the receiver throws to a back, another receiver or even the QB(Brady can’t catch).

Yes. They used to call it “punchdrunk.” And once the damage is done it doesn’t get better. Acute symptoms subside, but the long term course is progressive even without further injury. One common sequela is parkinsonism symptoms, such as Bernie Kosar now has.

Sterling Sharpe had to make that kind of tough decision knowing he was walking away from a sure path to Canton. He can help Tua if anyone can.

Speaking of hockey, anybody have any idea about Eric Lindros these days? That guy had a lot of concussions over his career.

The Dolphins’ star quarterback is injured and that’s the end of the Miami Dolphins’ season? Can’t they find someone else to be quarterback?

I note so far it looks like this is the year of Journeyman QB: Mayfield, Darnold, Carr.

He needs to think long term health and make a tough decision.

For athletes like him and others at that level, it's no longer about the money. But rather for the love of the game.

They're big, they're strong, and they think they're invincible and can recover from any injury due to the advances in surgeries and physical therapy.

In most cases, their thoughts are true; they can recover.

However, concussions are brain injuries and there is still no conclusive determinations on what the long term effects will be on such an injury taking place today or what the result will be if he suffers another concussion.

So the decision is Tua's. Does he allow his lifetime passion of football take precedence over the potential health risks of his continuing to play? Or does he have the common sense of realizing his health, his family and future are more important than football?
