When it took to the sea in 1912, the RMS Titanic was not only a luxury liner transporting society’s upper crust from England to the U.S.; it could also be described as a floating gallery of fine art and design, populated with high-end objects from a Renault Coupe de Ville to irreplaceable books and a 1912 painting by Merry-Joseph Blondel that would be worth over $3 million dollars today.
Now, an unmanned mission to the floor of the North Atlantic Ocean where the ship lies has revealed a long-sought two-foot-tall bronze statue showing the goddess Diana that stood atop the fireplace mantel in the first class lounge. Based on an original in the Louvre’s collection, the sculpture is often referred to as the Diana of Versailles.

Why NPR had anything to f’n do with the broadcast and or info I’ll never know
Who do you think the artsy crowd listens to?
They should bring up what ever they can since its eventually going to collapse in on itself
If they’re not going to retrieve it, I will. I’ll build me a submersible out of carbon fiber and control it with an Atari joystick. I’ll grab my meathooks on it and drag it up.
“They should bring up what ever they can since its eventually going to collapse in on itself.”
Exactly. They want to preserve it as is. WHY?
It’s a grave. I say let it collapse in on itself. Too many people are just sick.

Probably a little worse for wear. Might be in need of a little "touching up."
Why even mention such artefacts as can't possibly have survived?

Me too..
Somebody is learning.
Proof that Princess Diana was a time traveler.
That statue of Princess Diana is absolutely terrible. I was no particular fan of hers, but public art should be excellent. The expression is vacant and makes her look hard, failing to capture her having reached out far and wide with and for affection. Except for the legs, it makes her look like a linebacker who just took a deep breath, horribly mistrepresenting her figure and facial bone structure. With all the fashionable hair styles, jewelry, gowns, dresses, shoes and suits she was pictured in, why these dreadful choices, which draw the eye to a rumpled blouse and ill-fitting belt? I'm astonished that anyone in charge approved of this mess.
By the way, her brother and sister in the above picture don’t look too impressed, either. If it were good art, they would be awestruck and glowing.
And another afterthought: please dont’ think I’m criticizing you for posting about that statue. It definitely is a coincidence! I just get triggered by that statue... forgive me for ranting! It’s not at you! :-)
