UPDATE: 9/13, 2:20 p.m. ET - Alf child star Benji Gregory's cause of death has been revealed. The local medical examiner confirmed to TMZ on Friday, September 13, that Gregory died from heat exposure in the setting of hepatic cirrhosis (scarring of the liver).

The actor was found dead in his car. Original story: Former child star Benji Gregory has died at age 46. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's office confirmed on Wednesday, July 10, that Gregory died on June 13, in Arizona, according to Deadline.

His cause of death has not yet been determined. TMZ was first to break the news on Wednesday. Gregory's sister, Rebecca, told the outlet that her brother was found dead in his car at a Chase Bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona, which is a suburb outside of Phoenix. His service dog, Hans, was also found dead at the scene.

Rebecca claimed to TMZ that Gregory suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and a sleep disorder that kept him awake for days often. According to Gregory’s Instagram page, his bio states that suffered from “bipolar” and “major depression disorder.”

Rebecca shared that Gregory advocated for The Actors Equity Foundation and ASPCA, and suggested donations be made to those organizations in honor of her late brother in lieu of gifts to the family. Gregory was not active on social media and his last post dates back to April.

“Wish my dog, Hans, would grow out of this ‘tagging’ phase already,” Gregory wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of water splattered on the concrete on a sidewalk in Peoria, Arizona.

Many of Gregory’s fans took to the comments section of that post to pay their respects to the late actor and his pup. “R.I.P. Ben. R.I.P. Hans. My sincere condolences to your loved ones. ,” one user replied, while another penned, “RIP We will miss you and Hans. .”

Gregory grew up in Los Angeles and his brother, sister and uncle were all actors. He was best known for his role as middle brother Brian Tanner on Alf, which aired from 1986 to 1990.

The actor, who got his start when he was 8 years old, appeared on 101 episodes of the classic sitcom. Alf also starred Max Wright, Anne Schedeen and Andrea Elson. (Wright died in 2019 at age 75 after battling lymphoma.)

Middle?

As far as I can remember they only had two children. One teen girl and one pre-teen boy. What is this "middle brother" bit?

Did they have more children?

It was a wonderful family-friendly tv show that was often quite hilarious... the sort of wholesome shows they don’t make today. RIP Benji and thank you for the wonderful laughs my family shared while watching ALF...

I think I was about ten when I watched it.

It was undoubtedly silly but so is much of television.

“Since we never watched it, I can’t comment.”

There hasn’t been anything I’ve wanted to watch beyond a few documentaries in decades. Everything is ridiculous. Women taking unrealistic male roles where her 98 pounds trumps 250 pounds in fist fights. Not because she’s an expert in some marshal art, but because she can hit his jaw hard enough to make him backflip and lay in a crumpled pile. White men are played as idiots. There’s an obligatory gay in almost everything. The black characters are amazingly superior in whatever is required. People WAY too young have the knowledge and experience their character is assigned that could only be gained by decades at whatever job. And there’s some woke dialog about evil Republicans or climate change thrown in haphazardly in lots of places where preachy is not called for. (Actually, preachy is never called for in entertainment.) Hollywood has lost me.

This show may have been on when another very popular show aired: Webster: Retired football player (Alex Karras) and his wife (Actual wife Susan Clark) adopted an orphaned black boy (Emmanuel Lewis) , who was the son of a former teammate.
That show lasted from 1983 to 1989.

For so many, many reasons, I doubt if a show with that premise would be aired today, if shown, it wouldn’t last past two seasons.

Hollywood should not have the right to exploit and kill children, even if the harm takes 40 years to be evident.

I think that’s a winning political platform…

I couldn’t agree more.
Almost EVERY show and movie anymore are like that, and it destroys any interest in that trash.
All unrealistic.

I think Married With Children was the last network show I watched regularly when it came out.
