For the first time in my life we're find it hard to make ends meet....

I didn't know how to post without having a link so I apologize. I have to be honest, for most of my life (in sales), the harder I worked, generally the more money I made....more on that later. We are savers---putting in 401K, stocks, mutual funds, some precious metals, have property. We had no debt (except our mortgage----2.3% and under $100K). Recently we had a few things---our son's wedding, property taxes (up another $800 this year) car tires needing to be replaced, air conditioner crapped out, cost of food, gas, utilities, etc. We ALWAYS pay off any debt immediately but now finding it harder and harder....I actually got a credit card with 0% interest for 15 months just to give us some breathing room.

Back to work---I have been at this company for 38 years. Have been in the top 3 in sales every single year. The past several years we had layoffs, are on 4 day work weeks (20% less pay) and our sales are off literally 50%.

We have had some rough times in the past but this is, by far, the worst----and it gets even darker---I see no end to this downward spiral. In past times, there was always a light at the end of the tunnel. However, I don't even see a tunnel to find the light.

I know our entire industry (manufacturing---Chemical, plastics and oils companies) are all complaining and not spending any money. I don't get political with customers but they're all stating "They're waiting for the elections before initiating projects".

My question is---are any of you, or people you know going through this as well? If Kamala gets in there I don't know how we can survive if we continue in this direction....

Opposite. We retired and we are not spending up to our income. Reasons: No local restaurants, LCOL area, spending more time at home or hiking. I postponed Social Security in case I decided to go back to work which it sounds like I am doing.

OK.....
Here is my conspiracy theory...
The 2008 depression level event is finally going to play itself out.
This is a fact, as you have just stated.
Whoever is in the white house will be taking the blame.
Do the democommies want the blame?
President Trump will win.

We’re doing OK but not great. Semi-retired, small pensions and SS. We moved from MD a few years ago and paid cash for a much smaller place in FL. Our property tax in FL can’t go up by more than 3% a year.

We do buy practically everything on sale, though just yesterday I splurged on a couple of ribeyes because for non-Prime cut they looked spectacular. Price was $18.99lb though.

Lots of chili in the next few weeks!

The public schools are going to be the death of us all, that is, if the illegal aliens don't get us first. Up here in Minnesota, our property taxes are much lower. I'm paying about 40% of what you are. But we have a state income tax that is one of the highest in the country.

This thread is sad. I had no idea so many Freepers were struggling financially at this time.

Sometimes I peruse You Tube videos of mostly young people complaining of high cost of rent, food, etc…. Most are irresponsible and some have been divorced creating oftentimes self inflicted hardships. Inflation is very damaging and this current rotten regime in DC created it. Hoping many of these sufferers not only get smarter managing their finances but also vote against the DemoRat regime. Unfortunately a large segment of these airheads will vote for their tyrants again because of stupid blinded emotions or propaganda memes like women’s rights. I feel sorry for many of their own predicaments but if their pain won’t change them then they deserve what they choose.

“ If it is any consolation, even if Trump wins, the country is still going to crash at some point. The debt is unsustainable.”

This will happen. The country will limp along, perhaps even show signs of strengthening should Trump win and flip the energy sector into overdrive while removing the mass of illegals, wiping out much of the regulatory monolith and (if he has Congress) making structural changes to the budget, federal employment and benefit outlays. But even with all that, we are past the point of no return. The final reckoning will come when the dollar is no longer the world’s fiat currency. That is already beginning to happen as the Petro Dollar is no more and a major chunk of the world is beginning the process of transitioning. This is how China defeats the U.S…with currency, not bombs and bullets.

When that happens the crash will be fast and brutal. And in the end it will be from arrogance - arrogance brought on by believing you were unassailable, the lone superpower, the world’s currency. Pride comes before the fall.

My property taxes decreased nearly $2000 thanks to the Texas State Legislature. I live in Irving/Valley Ranch. I understand Tarrant County has had issues, though.

Felling your pain, too. I’ve contemplated getting rid of the collision coverage on the vehicles I have paid for. Those rates have gone up so much during the past few years.

I saw this coming years ago. I left the Pentagon and formed an escape plan. Here is the framework:

1. Your plan must include a clan.

2. Your church family is part of your clan.

3. GET OUT of the cities and into the rural farming communities. You are looking for a county that dutifully elects a constitutional sheriff: he alone can instantly muster 10K riflemen with qualified immunity when everything falls apart: and it’s already starting to fall apart.

4. Build your own economy, food and water sources. Stop relying on Uncle Sugar for anything. He’s broke but he doesn’t know it yet.
.
5. For those with the means, leaving the US and building an economy elsewhere may be an option.

The same young people having food delivered to them at outrageous prices and running up credit cards. They are on Reddit every day trying to “trade down in car” (not a thing) and complaining about their payments

Buy food, gas and medicine. Don’t buy clothes or eat out. Fix what you can fix by yourself.

I got a break on property taxes last year, but insurance and inflation in general pretty much wipe that out. Now the county is talking about raising taxes. They get Recovery Act money to throw around, but when it runs out they want to keep on spending like Covid times and now everything is more expensive.

The fact that we as a nation are in 35 trillion in debt is the biggest legalized theft in history. Republicans don’t get a pass on this either. How many times when in power they had chances to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment. Imagine if we had very little or no debt what an economic powerhouse the USA could be. Now we have the government the Founders warned against but fools in power ignored their wisdom while feigning allegiance to the Constitution.

This is not a Federal issue.
—————-
Exactly, if one is given the eyes to see, they can see it is a Spiritual issue. Time for this Nation to start running to God, instead of running away from God.

For those unbelievers, try Jesus, if you don’t like him, Satan will always take you back.

We moved to Texas from Virginia in April.
Yes, the property taxes are higher, but with no income taxes we are better off now, in Texas, than we were in VA. Once I retire, we will reevaluate. My bride, being younger, will need to work longer for the benefits. There are worse states (NJ, IL, CT)
