James Gandolfini gave ‘Sopranos’ cast $30K each — but not TV wife Edie Falco

Bada bing.

A new documentary about the making of HBO’s mafia hit, “The Sopranos,” covers how the late star James Gandolfini gave money to his fellow cast members – except one.

Now airing on HBO and Max, “Wise Guy: David Chase and The Sopranos” sees series creator David Chase say onscreen about Gandolfini, “He was great to that crew. He made them laugh, and he gave the other cast members $30,000.”

This information was also previously reported in the 2021 book, “Tinderbox: HBO’s Ruthless Pursuit of New Frontiers.”

According to the book, Gandolfini signed a contract that would pay him $5 million per season. HBO doubled his salary after the third season aired in 2001.

“The Sopranos” aired for six seasons, from 1999 to 2007. Gandolfini died from a heart attack at age 51 in 2013.

“That sounds like him. He was a very good-hearted kind man, looking out for his friends,” [Falco] added.

From a thread 20 or so down from yours: “Gandolfini was a cokehead and unstable.”

I remember the story when it actually happened. They had quotes from Gandolfini when the actors received the money and were like “WTF??!!” The quotes were hysterical.

Who was if sopranos guy was harassing when both were in the audience at some award show. Gandolfino or whatever his name is was a grade A jackass liberal like the rest.

Gandolfini was not always "a cokehead and unstable." Most of that was behind him during the Sopranos, with departures due to Gandolfini's dislike of being a TV celebrity. Notably, the series had numerous conservative elements and plot points due to the perspective of writer-creator David Chase, which Gandolfini delivered credibly.

She was getting $500,000 per episode, far more than the lesser cast members. She did not need the money. I despise people like you.

At least he wasn’t a meth head actor.

You knew I was going to go there.

Proof positive that Tony was a coke head is the movie Romance & Cigarettes (2005) directed by John Turturro. It must have been a vanity project for Turturro as the movie is a bizarre musical. Had quite good cast of soon to knowns as well.

You could definitely notice the weight gain as the show progressed, and the heavy breathing.

He gave the money to the secondary character actors, not the high paid ones.

Anyways, $4 a pound.
