The Constitution Stands in Their Way, So …
American Greatness ^ | 7 Sep, 2024 | Laura Hollis

Posted on 09/07/2024 5:31:13 AM PDT by MtnClimber

Our Constitution is not dangerous. But the people who are threatened by it—all of them: politicians, academics, journalists, activists—are.

Ah, the left. Ever ready to burn the foundations of America to the ground in pursuit of … progress.

The latest example is a New York Times article by Jennifer Szalai titled, “The Constitution Is Sacred. Is It Also Dangerous?” You can guess what her conclusion will be, but the subhead nevertheless provides an additional clue: “One of the biggest threats to America’s politics might be the country’s founding document.”

Unsurprisingly, Szalai starts out by casting everything in terms of current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. He is not only a threat to the Constitution, according to Szalai, but—more alarmingly—the Constitution is to blame for his political existence. “Trump owes his political ascent to the Constitution,” she argues, “making him a beneficiary of a document that is essentially antidemocratic and, in this day and age, increasingly dysfunctional.”

As proof, Szalai complains that Trump lost the “popular vote” and that two of his three Supreme Court nominees were confirmed by a majority of the U.S. Senate that only represented 44% of the population. She points accusingly at the provisions of the Constitution containing the Electoral College (Article I), the composition of the U.S. Senate (Article II) and the method of selecting federal judges (Article III).

Szalai ignores that the United States is not, in fact, a democracy but a constitutional republic. She repeats the trope that the creation of the Electoral College was all about slavery—it was not—and she disregards that the Constitution was a treaty of sorts between 13 independent states that agreed to cede some but by no means all of their sovereignty to a federal government of deliberately limited powers....

Nope! They either a.) see themselves as being part of ‘the state’, and so ruling over everyone else, or b.). are so infantile in their thinking as to believe ‘the state’ will make right all the wrongs in their life, and lift them up into a better lifestyle. They have no understanding of history, human nature, or how society actually works; they do not have the capacity to understand your point (which is of course correct).

There was a black Congresswoman who often said the Constitution was the greatest.

I think it was Shirley Chisholm, but I can’t find a quote.

Shirley Chisholm was quite articulate:

We can be somewhat certain that the author, Miss Hollis isn’t of the age where Civics were taught in Junior High School. Her piece is not only wrong in it’s fundamental assumptions, it is also a counter-revolutionary screed of the kind typically written by today’s young jorno-listers. It’s amazing her editor didn’t grade this an F and refuse to print it.

It’s futile arguing with people who endlessly get it wrong. And it can’t be a mistake
or, maybe they really are dumb as spit?

I went to a Shirley Chisholm rally in DC when she was running for president. Still have a campaign button. My partner and I were the only white folks there.

“William Paterson helped to author the New Jersey Plan, which attempted to safeguard the rights of small states. In his plan, Paterson called for each state to have equal representation in Congress. He opposed plans for proportional representation for fear that the interests of small states would be ignored. In reference to proportional representation, Paterson wrote “I would rather submit to a Monarch, to a despot, than to such a fate.” He left the convention in late July, but returned to sign the Constitution in September when aspects of his proposal were included in the Connecticut compromise.”

That smaller states get to have a substantial say was a fundamental part of the bargain.

If New York and California don’t want to keep the bargain, they can have a representative and a senator introduce a succession bill. In that way, California might be its own master and New York might be its own master.

Those who distrust private citizens with wealth and power but who trust unaccountable government officials with boundless power and endless supplies of other people’s money to go along with it … otherwise known as Democrats.

Nine white guys claimed authority under the Constitution to OK the murder of 65 million babies. Maybe that should be clearly prohibited.

But until it is, there’s the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights:

Article 6
1. Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life....

https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/Documents/ProfessionalInterest/ccpr.pdf

The United States is a state party.

I think it’s a being, doc. The ultrasound shows it has a beating heart, sort of like a baby bird in a nest.

Do you think it is human?

Maybe that can be proven by analyzing its DNA.

"Our Constitution is not dangerous. But the people who are threatened by it."

I think they see it as threat to "Their democracy". They want to use the courts to force it on our nation, And that, of course, leads us to where all, so called, "democracys" in up. In tyranny..!

Those "old white guys" knew what they were doing.. All we need is the stones to make it so..

Yori Bezmenov in his lectures discussed the Communists’ ‘normalization’ stage of effecting a non-kinetic takeover of a country. Communists have been working for decades on one of their major objectives, which is normalizing the notion that ‘guns are bad’. Now, they have expanded their reach by attacking the entire Constitutional document as stogy and outdated by spouting the mantra ‘the Constitution is bad.’ The objective is to ‘normalize’ these Communist thoughts into society and make such radical views acceptable, at least to the low information public.

“Don’t leftists understand that communism and socialism is slavery to the state?”

No... They actually do not. Almost three whole generations have been indoctrinated and now been hidden from the whole concept of what Communism is. Even though the Democrats use the word “Democracy” it is actually synonymous with “Communism”. But they are never taught what Communism is let alone the history and reality of it. And they are taught to NEVER think for themselves or outside the box and investigate on their own.

So no they actually do not...

A planned economy is most attractive to those arrogant enough to think they would be part of the planning class.

Marxism attracts sociopathic narcissists.

Must save democracy bla, bla, bla...

I love to reply to that comment that in a democracy the majority rules and in a Constitutional Republic I’m the majority.
