sad.
but why let your kid (2 yrs old, tiny bicycle) ride in street if you have some drive way space? no side walks?
I resign.
The parents must be from Mars. Someone should explain to them what a street is used for. It certainly is not for kiddie tricycles.
“... saw the speeding truck,”
Slow down everybody!
My good friend and neighbor was killed monday afternoon while riding his motorcycle.
He was broad sided at an intersection. The car was going three times the speed limit.
Witnesses say he flew over 100 feet after the impact.
Slow down.
They should have beaten him to death
Well, here ya go. It's a city street, and not a playground. I've literally crawled through residential neighborhoods and had kids on bikes come flying out of their driveways and run into the side of my car. All the while, the parents were nowhere in sight. I once knew a man who ran over and killed his own child while pulling out of his driveway on to the street.
Maybe it’s just me, but I never let my little ones play near a street or road. Still, drunk boy needs to pay big for this.
You don't let children ride tricycles in the street. Drunk driver or not, parents are idiots to allow children to ride tricycles in the street.
Bikes are legally allowed in streets. Tricycles are not, but it was a culdesac and the parents were right there.
It sounds like the guy was recklessly speeding while drunk driving, and the parents couldn’t get their child out of the way in time.
Tragic yet preventable.
From the article: “Montero’s breath sample came back at .062 and .057, which is considered over the limit since he is underage...”
I think the headline is a bit misleading as these numbers do not really indicate drunkeness in common, non-legal system terms. Nor are they in the range that accounts for the vast majority of fatal alcohol-related accidents. Florida’s law is what it is and I am thinking it is a good law and that this driver will feel the consequences of it. I am just noting that if the driver was an adult (actually 19 is an adult, but an older adult), the drinking angle would not be mentioned or charged. For these reasons, I am guessing the accident was much more directly caused by speeding.
These kind of things would not happen if we just taught people how to drive drunk.
It is the fault of the parents who let their children ride bikes.
Everyone drives drunk, why are you so up tight about it?
Just some of the comments I have seen on threads about drunks who murder.
Might or might not see these comments on this thread because he is not a youngish female with a BIG bust.
Did his dad buy him a bottle of jack Daniel’s for Christmas?
We used to say “cul-de-sac” was French for “play in the street”.
There is insufficient information in this poorly researched article.
I have questions.
Tragic.
my parents always preached “you’re gonna get run over if you play on the street”... and we lived on a dead end street...
common sense is lacking in today’s parenting...
It is a cul-de-sac in a gated, meaning supposedly closed, community. A drunk 19 year-old is not even supposed to be anywhere near there. Not supposed to be. WE had the fools driving in behind someone and racing down every street and cul-de-sac cutting donuts there looking for a way out. Everyone of them was caught and hauled off and I nope never to be seen again.
apparently has a comprehensive data file on a “Joshua Montero” in “Tavares, Florida,” but I don’t have a gift card to use for the $1.00 (not going to use one of my CCs).
I’m almost curious enough to go get a gift card...
Gonna drive even slower after this. I can't imagine....
Based on his photo alone, the driver deserves the death penalty. The parents have just paid an enormous price for their stupidity. Drunk drivers and speeders happen. Never put young children in a situation where incidents like this one are physically possible.
