Mrs. POF and I are in Calgary today and tonight on our way to Banff and Lake Louise. While on a nice afternoon stroll across the Bow River, we found a Commiela campaign poster! I didn’t know she was simultaneously running in Canada.
Canada is a vassal country of the US, allowing us to spend more on socialism and neglect our military in exchange for the US having presumptive permission to park its military assets in the north in the event of Russia coming over the North Pole.
Similar to what I saw in Victoria 45 years ago.
That doesn’t surprise me....it’s Canada!
Enjoy your trip. I worked at the Banff Springs Hotel years ago. It’s beautiful out there. IIRC the Bow River runs right behind the hotel.
I love that area. I’ve been there three times and I would go back tomorrow.
We were in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Lake Maligne a year ago and loved it. So we came back and are splurging on the great hotels this year.
We hiked the Bow River in Banff last year. It was wonderful because a short walk out of town got us into some gorgeous country past the Banff Springs Hotel.
We just spent two days at Waterton and spotted a male Bighorn Sheep, a female black bear and her cub. The sheep are coming down to lower elevations now that most of the tourists are gone.
A great great uncle homesteaded on the Bow River at Bow Island east of Lethbridge around 1910!
My little sister just went to Banff! Not sure where she stayed but she loved it! Late June. She had a blast.
Mom and Dad would be proud of her. They dragged us kids all around North America looking at every beautiful place. We tent camped for most of it. I never made it to Banff, but I’m so glad my sister and BIL went to see what all the *fuss* was about. Mom and Dad loved seeing the sights!
Come to Jasper. It’s surprisingly quiet. You’ll have no trouble as there are no lineups.
That’s very exciting! Imagine homesteading out there....just incredible!
The Banff Springs is beautiful (at least it was 55 years ago lol). We had to wear our Scottish uniforms with the plaid pleated skirts and the little short jackets and white gloves. Old elevators with the big wheel we had to turn to run them. We had to land them perfectly even....can’t have the customers tripping! I gave an elevator ride to Alfred Hitchcock....and Simon and Garfunkel.
Enjoy - I think the Chateau Lake Louise is still around. Those hotels used to be CP (Canadian Pacific) hotels, owned by the railroad company. They’re all beautiful.
Good for her! I hope she was a the Banff Springs...it is so beautiful. Camping isn’t my thing, for sure. But kids seem to like it, so it was nice that you got around to see as much as you did.
“ We had to wear our Scottish uniforms with the plaid pleated skirts and the little short jackets and white gloves. ”
LOL…that is the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton today. All the male bellhops wear kilts. The hotel opened in 1927 and they adopted the kilts in the mid 50s and still wear them today. They hire lots of young people from Scotland, England and Ireland, too. All very polite and helpful, but you have to listen very closely.
Ha! Very cool. I’ll look that up. When it was time for the “changing of the guard”, that is, the new shift of elevator operators (all girls) and bellhops (all boys) to replace those coming off of their shift, we had to line up in a little room and then march out into the lobby and officially take our elevator and then the ones leaving had to officially march away lol.
I can’t imagine trying to get anyone today to do that! Plus I don’t know how all the tatoos, blue hair, piercings, and various nuts and bolts protruding from their faces would look with the uniforms lol.
Just looked it up....another hotel built by the railway. They all have the same look/feel. Very nice.
I didn’t see a single tat, piercing or dyed hair in the staff! Hard to believe, eh?
A couple of the Scot bellmen looked like they came right out of “Braveheart” casting, too.
That IS hard to believe! Not a tat (at least an exposed one) among them?!
Be honest now, did you throw that “eh” in there just for me, what with it being our claim to fame and all?
“Be honest now, did you throw that “eh” in there just for me”
LOL…you caught that! I thought I’d make you feel at home. I think I heard the first “eh” by the bellman helping us with our luggage. We hadn’t been there but a minute!
