California reparations bill stalls — some say Newsom is to blame
Washington Examiner ^ | 9/01/24 | Haisten Willis

California will not be creating a new state reparations agency this year, and at least one elected official is pointing the finger of blame at Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).

The state was considering a reparations bill that aimed to "repair harms from institutional racism," according to Politico, but its scope was greatly reduced on the final day of California's legislative session.

The bill could have created a new Freedmen Affairs Agency, but was watered down to propose spending $6 million for a California State University study on the issue of reparations, and how to confirm whether someone seeking reparations is eligible.

State Sen. Steven Bradford (D-CA) told the outlet that Newsom's aides were behind the moves.

A state task force created an extensive reparations report last year, and more than a dozen legislative bills were proposed afterward, though none have brought about the movement's wider goals. Members of the California legislature's black caucus say they will spend years trying to bring about the task force's findings.

Among the proposed ideas has been creating a process to compensate Californians who lost land due to eminent domain, and also for the state to formally apologize for slavery and racism. Bradford said he is refusing to accept Newsom's amendments.

California became the first state to form a reparations task force in 2020. Experts have predicted black residents could receive millions in reparations based on the California Reparations Task Force’s 1,080-page report. The state has struggled to implement them amid billion-dollar budget deficits.

I wonder if drug consumption could be rated according to States... if California would be close to the top. I swear most of the people in their State Assembly are smoking some real strong stuff.

Well, that’s sexist. What about women who are due reparations? And what about the non-binary folks? Some wokesters believe there are up to 80 different genders.

Come on California! You’ve got to do better. Rename the agency using all 80 genders.

I always knew Newsome was a racist. This proves it.

“how to confirm whether someone seeking reparations is eligible.”

SMDH. How do you know? You just ask him! Duh.

just about the only institutionalized racism in USA/Californication today are the laws and regulations that disadvantage white, Asian, Christian, and Jewish people in hiring, promotions, college admissions, college financial aid, and civil rights protection.

so it will be good “karma” when all of these disadvantaged groups apply for the “free money” the Californication legislature is proposing to dish out

perhaps the Californication legislature would like to amend their bill to make sure that only the institutionally-advantaged “groups” (advantages their racist laws have bestowed upon said “groups”) will pay for the reparations to white, Asian, Christian, and Jewish citizens.

Good point. She has chosen her race identity to be black. You can tell because she doesn’t wear the dot even though she’s married.

the state to formally apologize for slavery and racism.

California was a free state and did not allow slavery when it entered the Union.

Some people WANT to feel guilty of something so they can assuage themselves for some past guilt they had no control over.

I was thinking the same thing. Really easy to identify the ones to get the taxpayer money: 1860s enslaved people who are still alive.

What if they locate one man who was fast frozen in a river near the Canadian border and the ground shifted over him. Thawed out and revivified and alive for a few minutes. Court rules all the total reparation money goes to him. No one else. Government gets the money due to no will or living heirs.

My satire makes more sense than the preposterous government ideas.

California is 5% black and 40% white. The overwhelming majority of the remaining 55% are Latino and Asian and they’re not down for paying reparations to the 5%.

“California reparations bill stalls — some say Newsom is to blame”

Why does Newsom HATE BLACKS? Seems to me that Trump will treat them FAR BETTER.

Lol. The blacks are learning the left has abandoned them. The immigrants are the new victim class. They are getting the bucks now. Hurts being under the bus, don’t it.

What about white people who have black ancestors? A friend of mine took that Ancestry DNA test and found out he has a percentage of African DNA so he immediately complained about “the man” keeping him down, and demanded his reparations even though he looks 100% white. Oh yeah and now he’s considering changing his name to “DeShawn”

That will die a deserved death because of the high-speed rail network. Lots of eminent domain exercised to get the land for the rail line that is not being built.

Why does Newsom HATE BLACKS?

He doesn't really hate them. He just doesn't want them around, which is why he is such an ardent supporter of abortion, which currently kills half of all black babies today. And you know that he is working to increase that percentage.

“California was a free state and did not allow slavery when it entered the Union”

Yes, but with California’s generous welfare state, Blacks have flocked to California who “MIGHT” have been descendants of slaves from other States. And I’m sure they will continue to do so as long as there is a chance of a major payday.

Inflation is going to be hilarious to watch when we hand the black population 25 to 100 grand for “ Reparations “and they go out and blow it on BS and the first month they receive it
