CHICAGO — Four men are charged with burglary after a Chicago Police Department surveillance camera operator allegedly saw them stealing big-screen TVs from a railroad car on Thursday morning.
The group was arrested in the 6300 block of South Wentworth around 1:45 a.m. A CPD camera operator notified patrol officers that they saw four men loading TV sets into a pickup truck at a gas station adjacent to the Norfolk Southern train tracks, according to a police report.
All four men tried to run away when cops arrived, but they didn’t get far. Police arrested Daryl McGowan, 25, Deveon King, 26, and Javier Pascasio, 33, on the tracks. They also arrested 31-year-old Elliott Singleton after removing him from a bush next to the tracks, the report said.
CPD said the officers recovered 39 Roku Smart TVs with 58-inch screens worth $12,441.
Judge David Kelly detained Pascasio for violating pretrial release in an identity theft case he was charged with last week. Kelly released the other three. They’re all charged with burglary, theft, and possessing burglary tools.

BTW, Chicago last had a Republican mayor in the 1930's, almost 100 years ago. Yet, high crime, high unemployment, and high taxes are blamed on conservatives.

Illinois is beyond help and hope. Enshrining pension in their constitution has made it impossible to help.

In Mexico the railroad hires armed guards to stand on top of every 5 rail cars or so. Probably won’t be long until we see that here

Nothing new. Fifty two years ago the TV program 60 MINUTES with Mike Wallace had an interview with young Chicago hoodlums who stole from railroad cars. They said their last haul was “meat” but their best haul was “GUNS!” and refused to say what they did with them.

I think the theft of anything of greater value than half an ounce of gold should be a hanging offense, and the aggrieved should be permitted to protect his property with deadly force.
Not particularly relevant but:
If me, being a white person who never owned a slave owes resources to a black person who was never a slave...
In all of recorded history, men (like me) have done all the protecting and fighting (and dying) in wars to protect our particular tribe/culture/country. Who benefited most from this but generally were almost never at risk? Women.
So perhaps modern women should be paying reparations to modern men for all the losses my past brothers paid.
(Just a thought exercise, obviously. No one actually thinks this but the thought process is not that far off from reparations talk.)
