Why Harris’s Barrier-Breaking Bid Feels Nothing Like Hillary Clinton’s
The New York Times ^ | Aug. 24, 2024, 5:06 a.m. ET | Katie Glueck

They still wear suffragist-white outfits and cheer on the prospect of “Madam President.”

But eight years after Hillary Clinton became the first woman to lead a major party’s presidential ticket, Democrats are sending American women a more sober and urgent message even as they try to elect another barrier-breaking candidate.

Republican policies, they argue, have had disastrous and once-unthinkable consequences for the health and autonomy of women and their families since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. A second term for former President Donald J. Trump, they warn, would be even more dangerous.

“Simply put,” Vice President Kamala Harris said this week from the stage of her party’s convention, “they are out of their minds.”

From the women who described harrowing pregnancies and their difficulties receiving medical care to Ms. Harris’s finale on Thursday night, the tone and emphasis were a radical departure from the optimistic feminism and chants of “I’m with her” that dominated Mrs. Clinton’s 2016 campaign.

“This is a time where the rights of women are fundamentally under attack as it relates to abortion, I.V.F., when and how to have a family,” said Senator Laphonza Butler, Democrat of California and a close Harris ally. “It’s not about minimizing the importance of race or gender. It is about appreciating that in this moment in the history of our country, this election is bigger than anybody’s race or gender.”

Harris’ run is barrier-breaking in the sense that we hav never had an idiotic communist appointed as a major party’s nominee without receiving a single vote.

Kamala says she is such a strong supporter of reproductive rights If illegals rape women they can get an abortion.

An abortion van on every block, like the ice cream trucks. Cackling.

If a first grader wants to use tampons he should have that right. Tim is such a great guy he volunteers his time helping little boys learn how to insert tampons.

Hey Katie Glueck - have you ever worked with a women who 'got to the top' by sleeping with the boss? Or worked for a woman boss who had ZERO respect for the women working for her?

What was the turnover for the women who worked for Kamala Harris? Katie Glueck, if YOU don't know why not? CommaLa can dish out personal attacks on Trump - can she also take a few? Or does CommaLa get a pass because 'she's a woman?'

Lafonza Butler was appointed by Newsome to fill the term of the late Dianne Feinstein.

According to what I heard,, while she has a legal address in California, she has been living for many years in Silver Spring Maryland, right outside Washington DC. She didn’t even have to move to represent a state 3,000 miles away in the Senate.

I wonder if a Republican would have been able to get away with appointing someone who doesn’t even live in their state, to represent that state in the Senate.

What is with the Democrats and abortion?

Remember years ago Bill Clinton said abortion should be safe legal and rare.

Hillary once said that, while she was pro-choice on abortion, she felt like the choice was a very tragic choice for women in many circumstances.

Now we have morphed into a situation where Democrats actually celebrate abortion as a positive thing.

Exhibit A at the Democratic Convention, was where they conveniently parked an abortion trailer outside, for any delegates who needed an abortion then.

What a great combo deal it was for the women delegates. Attend the convention, celebrate the Democrat Party, and get your abortion at the same time. ,

What is with the Democrats and abortion?

So what? Donald Trump is right to celebrate the abortion issue to the Democrats. Allow the states to legalize abortion and leave it at that.

We have more important things to worry about. Like defending the U.S. Constitution.

I love the smell the terror and desperation at the NYT.

And it is enlightening to watch the double down rather than question how things got to where they are.

It’s like talking to an eight year old. No matter what they’ve done, it always someone else’s fault.

Can you imagine the Times actually saying “we are doing things wrong, we need to learn how to stop it and how to fix it”

I love the smell the terror and desperation at the NYT.

President Donald John Trump has driven them completely out of their minds.

It is a thing of beauty.
