Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The famous fedora sported by Harrison Ford in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom fetched the swashbuckling sum of $630,000 at auction.
Memorabilia company Propstore said the heroic hat was among the more than 450 items up for bids in its US Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.
"This fedora was made specifically for the second installment of the Indiana Jones series and matches film shots, production stills and behind-the-scenes footage of Ford in the village set on location in Sri Lanka, in the mine cart chase shot at Elstree Studios, and in the river sequence shot in the U.S.," the auction listing states.
The hat was part of the personal collection of Dean Ferrandini, a stunt performer who also wore the hat while doubling for Ford in the film. Ferrandini died in 2023.
Some one has way more money then they know what do to with.
That’s a lotta moolah for a chapeau!
But I read an article here on FR yesterday that reported a prototype Boba Fett figure from Kenner went for…$1.8 million?!? Three times as much for a toy that never went into production!
For 630K I’d hold out for a DNA test.
The problem with these types of collectibles is that their value is highly dependent on nostalgia, and when the generation that has that particular nostalgia dies off...
Most people are wealthier today than a generation ago.
Indie’s costume was inspired by the one Charlton Heston wore in the 1954 movie “Secret of the Incas”.
From wikipedia:
“Throughout Secret of the Incas, the main character, Harry Steele, can be seen wearing what would later become known as the “Indiana Jones” outfit: brown leather jacket, fedora, tan pants, an over-the-shoulder bag, and revolver.[15] The character also sometimes wears a light beard, unusual for films of its time, and there is a tomb scene involving a revelatory shaft of light similar to the “Map Room” sequence in Raiders.
Raiders’ costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis noted that the inspiration for Indiana’s costume was Charlton Heston’s Harry Steele in Secret of the Incas: “We did watch this film together as a crew several times, and I always thought it strange that the filmmakers did not credit it later as the inspiration for the series” and quipped that the film is “almost a shot for shot Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
So many people have handled it a DNA test would be worthless..............
He didn't take it with him. But he could have.
(Those Egyptians sure knew how to go out with their stuff.)
Ferrandini, Ferdinand: "brave in journey"
He was "a stunt performer"
All hat, no cattle...
No hat, all cattle?
It's an important question.
Someday that hat can be traded for a loaf of bread?
Judging by Ford’s political insights, I would guess the hat is a size 4 1/2.
They’re working hard to get us there, ain’t they? :-/
$630k for the hat, idk... but the whip...
You can get these on Ebay for a lot less. All authentic.
Yeah they could’ve given me some
I think they work best on us less than six foot guys . . .
Yesterday, there was a story about a toy that sold for $1,300,000.
What is in a person’s heart that they would spend so much money for something so worthless?
My grandfather wore a gray one all his life. He was 6+ feet tall...............
