Ford previously pushed back the project only to cancel it amid stiff price competition as electric vehicle manufacturers struggle to move their product
=================================================================
Ford Motor announced Wedneday it has scrapped plans for a large electric SUV.
The reversal will reportedly result in $1.9 billion in write-downs and special charges.
Ford's course change comes amid lower-than-expected demand for electric vehicles, The Wall Street Journal reported.
This spring, Ford, a major U.S. automaker, delayed plans for the electric SUV to 2027. Ford blamed the cancellation on pricing pressuring as other automakers use aggressive discounts to move electric vehicles.
Ford has another electric vehicle project for a pickup truck, which the company recently pushed back to 2027.
"Based on where the market is and where the customer is, we will pivot and adjust and make those tough decisions," Ford chief financial officer John Lawler said.
Pity, really, because an EV SUV based on the F-150 Lightning chassis would make more sense than a pickup truck that can’t tow.
Good plan.
EVs are an amazing way for companies to destroy shareholder wealth.
It seems like they are going to produce only gas large vehicles for the wealthy, and only small electric vehicles for the peons.
so which one are you?
Bump, bump, bump, another one bites the dust

EVs are impractical for a variety of reasons.....so much so that for every argument that they are a good idea there are at least two as to why they are not.
DJT brought up a good point the other day, the bridge and overpass infrastructure on our roads was never designed to handle the weight of EVs...especially tractor trailers.
Ford says it’s going to “pivot”.
The article calls it a “1.9 billion dollar reversal.”
And you’d think with the F-150E chassis in production, an SUV variant wouldn’t cost 1.9 Bil.
Greta Thunberg on hearing this news:
I choose none of the above. I am going Cuban and sticking with my gasoline 2004 Chevy minivan, and my wife’s 2018 Toyota Avalon will be kept alive and healthy by me for her for the rest of my days.
Remember when Ford made vehicles that people wanted to buy? Explorer Sports and Sport Tracs, Escorts, Tauruses (especially for fleets), Crown Vics (great cop cars), etc. are all gone.
Today - other than pickups, what exactly do you make that people want, Ford?
EVs should be small/medium sized urban vehicles for now. As they increase in size they lose any advantage over ICE vehicles. Larger vehicles might do well as hybrids.
Railroad Locomotives are technically Diesel Hybrids.............

Newer gas Mustangs are like flies on poop around here.
Yep.
Why that idea never caught on with cars I don’t know..................well, yes I do..............
I would hope so. I think that’s the only car they manufacture.
