EMIGRANT GAP, Calif. — Parts of Interstate 80 in Placer County are closed Monday morning after an electric big rig caught fire east of Nyack, the California Highway Patrol said.
Drivers are being kept off the interstate for at least half a mile in both directions because the Tesla truck's battery was on fire, said Jason Lyman, a CHP spokesperson. The toxic fumes are an inhalation danger, he said.

The government subsidized and funded quite a few private trucking company ventures for testing. A few self driving trucks also,
Trucking Company , Lets let Mikey drive it
and all your Emergency vehicles will also be EV and may not make it to the disaster
Yes, I heard reports this morning. Around 6:20 a.m. Pacific they closed I-80 both ways to commercial traffic. Last report is they are still letting non-commercial traffic through. Wonder if this will be a repeat of the I-40 fire a couple of weeks ago that closed the freeway for several days.
“Trucking Company , Lets let Mikey drive it.”
Whoa... Deja vu. We had a real winner dispatcher named Mikey. The backwoods owner hired him from the McDonald’s across the street from the main office because “he is good with computers”. Meal #1, meal #2, meal #3... lol
But the drivers were always saying that... “let Mikey drive it and see how he likes it”. He was a real idiot and had no clue what a truck was or what truck driving was about. He treated it like it was all a video game.
UPS was testing fully electric big rigs probably 5 years ago. I saw one up close in the Dallas or Mesquite hub.
Nevada: I80 WESTBOUND AT CALIFORNIA/NEVADA BORDER CLOSED TO COMMERCIAL VEHICLES /FIND ALTERNATE ROUTE
Near Emigrant, west of Truckee, in addition or because of the truck, there is a fire at SR-20.
This Caltrans site is good, go to QuickMap options to select what you want to see. https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/
For CalTrans cameras, this is better as they are live video: https://cwwp2.dot.ca.gov/vm/iframemap.htm

It follows, that Electric Vehicles will be banned from all national forests and parks . . . and from wooden docks and piers . . . and from garages . . . and no closer than 100 yards to any pile of 20 or more leaves.
Also, Electric Vehicles will be banned from all highways during rush hour.
How do diesel-electric subs manage?
These toxic clouds will eventually become a daily occurrence on LA freeways as EV vehicles become more common in that venue.
And not only that. That route is a huge tinderbox just waiting for a spark to start another massive wild fire.
FIREFIGHTERS HAVE THE HIGHEST RATE OF VARIOUS CANCERS THAN ANY OTHER PROFESSION.
THERE REALLY IS NOT AN “ALTERNATE ROUTE”.
Not many, US50 through South Lake Tahoe.
Unsafe at any speed !?!
NOT exactly a SEMI-TRUCK friendly route.
No, definitely not! We go up that way in the spring to collect Morel mushrooms. Beautiful route, but just two-lane and mountainous curves.
Interesting that it’s I80 - we just had I80 closed in Ohio last week because of an accident involving a truck carrying Sulfuric acid just west of Toledo. Road closure from the 1st accident caused at least 2 more follow-ons. All total 4 dead, multiple more injured. I think it was Thursday. I80 was shut down along that stretch for basically an entire day.
Looks like we’re scaling up the size of our unquenchable fires now. Progress marches on. /s
Burning Li-Ion batteries release hydrogen fluoride gas, very poisonous. If one of these monster 10,000 EV truck batteries starts to burn in downtown LA/SanFrancisco/Chicago/New York/Houston/Atlanta/... ... ..., you would have to close down everything in a mile radius.
On the other hand, CO2 really does help my garden grow.
