A Lake Michigan mansion and its eight-figure asking price may set a new record for the region.
The 22-room home nicknamed "Windsor House" and the 2.3 acres that accompany it in Winnetka, Illinois, scored the title of the "highest-priced residential listing in the Chicago metro area" as it hit the market, Christie’s International Real Estate said last week.
Its asking price has been set at $35 million.

Winnetka is nice but I like Kenilworth better. I can't fathom the property taxes.

I saw some nice pads on Lake Geneva in WI on the tour a few weeks ago.

I don't think an inanimate object can "seek" anything.

Meh. That same house in a Red State would sell for a third of that asking price.

Nor can it sit anywhere.

That’s a nice house. I love the traditional Victorian style mansions.
It’s really too bad that it’s in Illinois. Only an idiot would buy a home in Illinois these days.

While touring French Riviera in South of France our tour guide pointed out a mansion built on a small peninsula jutying into Mediterranean sea. The owner was asking for $100 million. A Russian customer approached the owner. But the French owner preferred a French buyer. So he told the Russian the price is now $500 million. The seller was shocked when the Russian agreed to pay $500 million.

My cousin in Darien Illinois pays $12500 property tax on a 4 bed room house, not a mansion.
My property tax on a 5 year old 3 bedroom house in Florida is $2400 in 2024.

That’s crazy. My taxes are only about $1400 for a townhouse.

I have a huge yard all around the house, vaulted ceilings, enclosed Lanai, 2.5 car garage, huge gathering room which has kitchen+dining+living open concept. It is so quiet here, no noise from neighbors, no smokers in building, not hear dogs barking and no traffic noise. And we have a beautiful pool and gym for the subdivision. I am never going back to a condo or town house sharing walls with neighbors.

Also you are required to pay for building insurance and HOA.
I have neither. I dropped home insurance 4 years ago. You may be required to carry home insurance based on HOA rules.

I have a three bedroom house, and I pay $600 a year Property tax in Illinois. Of course, it only takes me about 30 minutes to mow my yard.

I don't think an inanimate object can "seek" anything. I don't think a mansion can "sit" on a lake either.
