I used to get those cookies out of vending machines and eat them at work all the time. Pretty good!

A great example of what American capitalism is IMO.....or was any way.

He didn’t sit around looking for the next hand out, he started a business and made it work.

When I lived in L.A. I had a good laugh once when I saw the cookies of a competitor to Famous Amos branded as “Unknown Jerome.”

Guy like him you wish he had another 20 years of good health.

Appears he had life to the full.

We need more folks like him as examples for our youth as opposed to too many of what we have now.

RIP, Amos.

First place I saw Famous Amos was in a men’s clothing store back in the 70’s, followed by the men’s dept at McRae’s. I figured they were somehow cookies that were “not for little girls” like me because they were sold only in the men’s wear. Maybe they had dangerous “macho stuff” in them like coffee, gunpowder or alcohol! Don’t think I actually ate any of ‘em for a few years until they were in groceries.
They were okay.

Cookies are better fresh with real butter in them.

I saw him on Shark Tank trying to get help launching a Macadamia nut cookie. He had sold his chocolate chip cookie business in bits and pieces over the years so he couldn’t use his “famous” name.

The Sharks said they loved his product and his personality but they didn’t invest due his poor business sense.

I used to go to one of his cookie shops in Los Angeles. He sold the Famous Amos brand for a fair bit of money for the times, and then went on to create another cookie company when his contract expired. An American success story.

I never understood why he was pushed so hard by the media and entertainment, getting on shows like Johnny Carson, his incredible celebrity for making just another brand of cookie didn’t make sense to me.
