Rachael “Raygun” Gunn didn’t take home a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but her bizarre breakdancing performance may never be forgotten.
The Australian breakdancer went viral after she failed to secure a single point in the inaugural breaking competition on Friday.
Gunn busted out all her moves as she spun around on her head, threw her arms in the air like a windmill, rolled around on her shoulders and reached for her toes while lying on her side.
According to fans, the 36-year-old dancer’s most memorable move might have been her “kangaroo hop,” which saw her jumping like the beloved Australian animal.
Japan’s Ami Yuasa won the gold medal, while Lithuania’s Dominika Banevič and China’s Liu Qingyi took silver and bronze, respectively.
“I was never going to beat these girls on what they do best — their power moves,” Gunn told reporters after the tournament, per Sky News. “What I bring is creativity.”
The Olympian’s performance quickly gained traction on social media as one person compared her choreography to actress Julia Stiles’ moves in the 2001 film “Save the Last Dance.”
“I want Raygun, the 36 year old Australian breakdancer possessed by the spirit of Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance, to know that I am now her biggest fan and she should never stop doing whatever it is she’s trying to do,” one person wrote on X.
Others refused to believe Gunn’s performance was legit.
“If this Raygun lady turns out to be a comedian who somehow blagged her way through qualifiers and all the way to the Olympics, and was bad on purpose, it will be one of the greatest bits ever achieved,” another person added.

Social media goes wild as Break Dancing makes its Olympic debut
Really?
In what world does thrashing around like an epileptic ghetto rat qualify as a sport??
Let alone Olympic level sport???
it’s a performance, nothing more, and it’s not even entertainment!
I’d rather watch -synchronized- er, umm, I mean “artistic” swimming...
I thought zero points got Tin Can Lid.
It’s like a fad from 30 years ago. The Olympic committee must have sat around trying to figure out what sports they could include to make it more culturally inclusive and this was the top choice of woke octogenerians.
I haven’t seen her performance but I bet she will have many memes created in her honor.
and they already dropped it for 2028....
This was the nutball hopping around like a kangaroo
Seems rather fitting for the fake Olympics
Well she got her name out there anyways.
At the moment, she has more notoriety than most medalists. She may even be remembered!
I saw the still pics, and I have to think this was supposed to be a joke. Now I have to see the video.
It is not easy to find her actual performance.
Does anyone have a link? Every YouTube video shows a picture, but no video.
Apparently the Olympics are enforcing DCRM restrictions on posted videos.
That’s seriously an Olympic event? Can you imagine that nonsense at the original macho Olympic games in Greece?
Maybe she can try for the Rock, Paper Sissors Gold in the next Olympdics.
I loved her dance!!!!!
Yeah frustrating. You’d think something so newsworthy they’d have tons of videos of the performance. I had the same trouble finding the fight of the tranny boxer making the woman boxer submit in 46 seconds. Saw videos of people commenting on it and just showing clips but not the actual 46 second match.
The best - and funniest - description ever!
NBC or the Okympic Cmte. keeps video of any of the Olympics hidden.
How is this an ATHLETIC event? To me this was embarrassing to watch in the Olympics. Right up there with wall climbing, all 10-15 seconds of it. How do these events even compare to the sacrifices athletes make over many years training in their sport.
