A very funny movie, and 40 years later it still holds true today with "womens" sports

My favorite part: the actors say “ this sounds like stupid plot in a really bad movie!” Then stop and look at the camera

That movie was one of the very last that I rented as a VHS tape.

Put boxing gloves on them and it would be believable today.

The scene with Peter Cushing in the library where everything was done in reverse is mind boggling to this day.

Introducing his men]
Du Quois: This is Chevalier, Montage, Detente, Avant-garde, and Deja Vu.
Deja Vu: Have we met before monsieur ?
Nick Rivers: I don’t think so.
[Deja Vu continues to eye him suspiciously]
Du Quois: Over there, Croissant, Souffle, Escargot, and Chocolate Mousse.
[Chocolate Mousse unblinking puts his lit cigar in his mouth and eats it]

That reminds me of the Olympics. The only thing out of place would be the ever watchful East German soldiers standing at attention in the background.

I loved Top Secret, and I guess I still do. It was to much of the parody genre so it wasn’t as funny as Airplane!. Zero Hour and Airport were parodied in Airplane!, but at the time I saw I had no idea about those movies as a 10 year old kid, so it was more original to me. Top Secret still is pretty damned silly and respectable.

Definitely one of my favorite movies (still have my VHS copy, somewhere, but I have it on DVD, too!) I copied all the music onto cassette and wore out the tape while delivering pizzas in the 80’s :-)

I loved it when I found out Jim Carter (the butler Carson from “Downton Abbey”) had one of his very first roles in this flic - that was for me a real case of Deja Vu.

“And the Ford Pinto!”

That was one of the most hilarious scenes in Hollywood comedies.
