Can Dems unseat a thrice-elected GOP congressman in this battleground L.A. County district?

Early on a Saturday morning at Rawley Duntley Park in Lancaster — the high-desert sun blazing — George Whitesides, a Democrat running for Congress, was encircled by dozens of cheering, noisemaker-blasting volunteers.

“I really want to make sure that even the astronauts out there can hear his name!” Nadia Abrica, an organizing director with the state Democratic Party, shouted, pointing to the sky. “George! George! George!”

“Are you guys feeling fired up?” Whitesides asked the crowd. “Are you feeling ready to go? ... Are we going to change the House of Representatives?”

“Yes!” they screamed.

Whitesides, a former NASA chief of staff under President Obama, is running to unseat Rep. Mike Garcia, the thrice-elected Republican incumbent, in California’s hotly contested 27th Congressional District in northern L.A. County. The race will be crucial in determining whether Republicans maintain their narrow majority in the U.S. House.

Democrats, riding the national enthusiasm unleashed by Vice President Kamala Harris’s entry into the presidential race, feel good about their chances to flip the district.

“You feel the difference — and what really helped is the re-energizing when we found out about Biden dropping out,” said Alvarez Marcos, 61, a volunteer for Whitesides. “We’re building off that.”

But after leaving the pep-rally vibe at the park to knock on doors at a nearby apartment complex, Whitesides spoke with middle-of-the-road voters who made one thing abundantly clear: Winning this purple suburban district will not be easy.

They’ve been running negative ads locally.

Worse is that the local demographics are skewing democrat as the government hand-outs keep coming and coming.

My generally positive outlook for House Democrats continues to improve.

I had the House at D+35 for a while, but 40-50 is more likely now, and could go higher.

Which is why Deep State cannot allow an election to occur.

This is Commie-fornia, they will just make up the ballots to steal jet again another seat.

This is going to happen all across the country this year.

Unless Trump is up by at LEAST 10 points in poles a few days before the election, Camaltoe will take it. And you can probably apply that same logic to any House or Senate seat up for grabs this year. The “Cheat” is going to exponentially larger then in 2020.

What has been done since 2020 to stop the fraud ... virtually nothing across the country.

I know here in NH, the rats will sweep everything, they are enhancing the “drive-ins” from other states to vote with the Same Day Registration scam.

They’re gonna replace Garcia by “Whitesides”?
Garcia was a navy pilot I think.
His district is pretty safe. Been GOP for many elections before him, too.

So you are convinced the rats take the House by 40 seats (1 is as good as 40). So then you must think they the Senate and Potus too. That happens and the country is finished and that is not hyperbole.

The disastrous performance of the House majority has, I believe, put them in the same position as the UK Conservative Party.

People do care about some issues, some of the time. But people do not think or vote the way people here discuss politics.

One thing people, in general, want from government is stability and actions supporting words. The spectacle of a House that cannot elect a Speaker, that can dismiss a Speaker based on a motion by a couple of deranged lunatics - this is not a way to demonstrate stability and confidence.

And I could write all the upcoming responses to this post right now - RINO this, betrayer that, the steal, on and on and on.

Ordinary people do not care about any of that. The GOP elected officials do not govern because a lot of them are opposed to the concept.

The Democrats, bless their pointy little heads, do not have that problem - they WANT to govern, boy, do they ever!

When in 2018 I predicted, starting in June, D+40 in the House, I got so many angry reactions. The result in November: D+40. When I pointed out that a “red wave” was the least likely outcome in November 2022, same story. After the red ripple, there was all the usual copium.

The problem is that the people want and deserve a government, the GOP is determined not to give them one (when a strong government is exactly what is needed to deliver on 40 years of GOP false promises). The Conservative party was given an 80-seat majority in the UK to deliver on Brexit that the people voted for, they failed to do so, and now the other guys have a 355 seat majority.

That’s politics.

It’s sad what is about to happen, almost tragic. But until the GOP is replaced by a pro-American, pro-social conservative, pro-economic interventionist hard right party, the Dems really have a clear field.

Always remember - the only thing Americans hate worse than Democrats is - Republicans.

I would take issue with several of your points but l will limit it to two. First being what 2018 really meant. The rats learned two game changing lessons in 2018. First they perfected several election outcome changing cheat strategies. 2018 was the prototype for the future. Second and maybe even more important, they learned that is a near impossibility to get a court to even delay an election “result” let alone reverse one no matter how blatant the cheating is.
The other thing l will say is the number of people who are upset that a handful of House members could toss Kevin the Cuck would not even fill a bus. I don’t share your degree of pessimism but the rats swapping Biden definitely made our chances much dimmer. Trumps biggest mistake was Wray. That distinction now goes to agreeing to the June debate. It gave the rats the escape hatch they needed.

I do not think being hard right excludes serving the interests of the people.

I don’t care about Kevin McCarthy (or any other Republican) one little bit.

My point was, the purpose of taking a majority is to exercise power. It’s nice when you do that AND do it on behalf of your people.

The people created a Republican majority. That majority did nothing except childish bickering and grandstanding.

Therefore, they are going to be replaced by a different majority that wants to govern.

How many people who grieved the fall of Kevin M is orrelevant to the analysis. But the fact that the party in power had no one to fill the office - THAT is very important.

You are WAY too charitable. They may be replaced by a different majority and that majority will inflict misery and dependence on everyone but the ruling class. That isn’t Governance that is tyranny.

On what planet do you believe the Comiecrats will gain the House?

I see Republicans picking up seats all across the nation in places Democrats are going to shocked by.

“ On what planet do you believe the Comiecrats will gain the House?”

The same planet I lived on when I predicted D+40 in 2018. The same planet I lived on when I predicted no red wave in 2022.

The problem with you GOP cheerleaders is that you fail to ascribe the state of the country to the failures of Republicanism since 1994. We gave them the world and they failed to execute. Every single problem they were granted power for is worse than it was in 1994, the military has never been weaker, the 9/11 murderers are still alive and on and on.

As I said - the only thing normal Americans hate worse than Democrats - is Republicans.

Sorry, I have always been an eternal pessimist (hope for the best but expect the worst).

Just my experience in life, especially with politics here in NH.
