JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Councilman Kenneth Stokes was joined by many in the community for a protest on Sunday against the Texaco gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard after the recent homicides and crime in the area.
He says he will be bringing up a vote of no confidence against the city’s legal department and director for not declaring the gas station a nuisance and shutting it down before now.
“Where people suffer harm or injury, it’s got to be considered a nuisance. How many people have to die here before they realize it’s harmful?” Councilman Stokes said.
The most recent homicide happened earlier this month when 23-year-old Jacobi Austin was shot and killed in front of the gas station

Then POC will live in a gas desert.
Because, with some communities, they’ve been encouraged to blame others.
Liberals believe that outside circumstances causes inner evil.
Change the outside circumstance and you chance evil, according to liberalism.
This, children, is how you get Big Mike’s “food deserts.”
“Medgar Evers Boulevard”
And I thought Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. was supposed to be the most dangerous place in town.
I don’t get it either. The violence will just move someplace else in the vicinity.
I don’t get it either. When the popo go after the criminals, they end up being accused of being the bad guys, so they cut back on patrols, etc. that would cut back on violent crimes. How is that the fault of the gas station owner?
children are our future.
God help us.
And don't forget, they sell rolling papers and Oreo cookies and that makes them responsible for weed smoking by otherwise innocent people.
At first I was irritated when they named streets after leftist icons.
Now I am thankful—almost as good as “dangerous part of town—stay out” signs.
I was expecting the Babylon Bee ...
This calls for root-cause analysis. All they need is a mirror.
Jackson should be bulldozed. If it weren’t for the medical center in Jackson there would be nothing to speak of in it.
If you watch the video, the first idiot they interview is saying we want to be safe when we go into these stores….if you shut down the store there is no store to go into.

23-year-old Jacobi Austin was shot in front of the gas station.
JPD says there are no suspects at this time.
You can get rid of every gas station in town and it won’t matter.
Get rid of the Feral Animals.
Medgar Evers Boulevard
Is that the new MLK Blvd.?
Councilman Stokes, who has been pushing for security guards at convenience stores, will have the item for the next city council meeting on July 30.
Will the guard be armed or will he just be allowed to say "Hey, you. You stop that." (No exclamation points because that would be too violent of response )
The councilman is doing more harm than the gas station.
His actions, and those protesters carrying signs suggest they really might want to check for lead paint in their homes. And if there has been repeated trauma to the head during a farm accident.
I mean, somewhere in that town there’s a box of rocks feeling really intelligent right now.
“And I thought Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. was supposed to be the most dangerous place in town.”
It’s the Jackson MS equivalent…just keeping it local.
