A car was seen being driven backward on July 10 in New York City, which shocked fellow motorists on the roadway.
Twenty-nine-year-old emergency medical technician Victoria Metzger was driving to a call when she noticed something odd on the street, the New York Post reported Monday.
Video footage shows the red car going backward as other cars pass by. Moments later, the car is seen still going backward as it tails a yellow school bus.
Metzger said she was in disbelief when she noticed the vehicle, adding, “I couldn’t stay or keep up for long because we were on our way to a call so I didn’t report it to police.”

How fast can one possibly go in reverse, 15 mph?
It was stupid, however the car did not appear to be “speeding” backward - least not in the clip I saw.
A 2004 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06 with a six-speed manual transmission has the following gear ratios in the transmission:
Gear Ratio
1st gear 2.97:1
2nd gear 2.07:1
3rd gear 1.43:1
4th gear 1.00:1
5th gear 0.84:1
6th gear 0.56:1
reverse 3.28:1
The maximum speed in reverse gear is limited by the engine’s power output and the vehicle’s gearing. Most cars have a top speed in reverse of around 30-40 km/h (20-25 mph). However, some high-performance cars may have a higher top speed in reverse, while some commercial vehicles may have a lower top speed in reverse.
Having tried this, cars become very unstable at over about 10 mph in reverse.
For the record, I did not do it in the city. I was in the middle of nowhere.

Some people just have to be different.
Probably flipped the body on the frame.
Must’ve just watched Hooper with Burt Reynolds
In Houston, he’d have been gunned down.

Is that a thing?
Maybe Benjamin Buttons was driving?
It’s limited by the engine’s redline. Reverse is such a low gear that power output has nothing to do with the max speed in that gear.
Feels like a Monty Python.
Well, the law says you have to go in one direction, it doesn’t say which end of the car has to be pointed that way.

Alrighty then...
