Phones are supported well beyond their average ownership lifetime. In stark contrast, automakers are struggling to work out how long their “smartphones on wheels” can be kept on the road.
In 2022, the automaker told drivers of the affected cars, some only three years old, that a technical solution was delayed by the pandemic. Now, more than two years later, those drivers still don’t have access to telematics services.
A recent report found that cars and trucks just reached a new record average age of 12.6 years, up two months from 2023.
“Whatever anybody is saying right now, it will really have to be proven out in time,” says Stacey Higginbotham, a policy fellow at Consumer Reports.

He had, for decades, intentionally sought, bought, and stored new parts for old refigerators, Frigidaire handles, Kelvinator condensors, you name it. Converted his basement and had a simple catalog system. He was wealthy as all get out and worked for fun.
There will be a market within 10 years for new EEC's for 2000-2010s that will be a fortune to be had, due to market pressure by 2035 for ever-reducing numbers of ICE units. Cheaper than buying ICEs and storing them; and a much tighter market due to lack of inventory.
Hi, have a 2018 RAV four that I bought new. I wish I had not bought the car because I traded in a Prius before the price of gas went up. I let a sleazy car salesman take advantage of me. 6 years later I’m still paying. And the Prius had a great GPS system. The RAV4 had a scout GPS system that you had to use your phone for. The sleazy car salesman got tired of seeing my face, trying to make the GPS system work and started hiding from me. I was hopping mad about it. About a year ago they discontinued this GPS system and now I have none and I can’t get the old one off my car. Very disappointed in Toyota.
2005 4x4 with 5.3 and most of my driving is commuting in hill country, 40 miles one way and I’m in a hurry both ways.
I did repair a ‘66 VW Aluminum headed engine that spit out a plug one day on the way to work back in the day with a Helicoil [https://www.helicoil.in/] spark plug thread insert.
Worked fine. Shoulda come out of the Factory with same.
—”An AC IS a heat pump!”
And so is your refrigerator, and it will move a bit of the heat into the conditioned space, unlike a traditional AC.
“It will take a generation to develop a good crop of heat pump techs.”
We have had 10 generations. The first heat pump patent was in 1834.
—” you bring your car in and we remove all computers. You’re left with a low tech fuel injected engine and a radio.”
You may want to have the EPA review your business plan before investing any money.

First demonstrated in 1748!
That was typically due to running Champion plugs. They were 1/2 thread too long and so the carbon reamed out the threads. Champion would never fix the problem.
EPA doesn’t make rules and regulations anymore and the ones they’ve enacted are slowly being challenged through lawsuits as are many of the 3 letter institutions. Only Congress can make laws.

just bought a 60’s car for this, among many similar concerns.
No gps
No tracking
No computers on board
No government surveillance devices
No apps required
No backup cam
No lane warning mirrors
No black box
Need a whole new engine? $6k and swap it myself.
It won’t go down in value compared to the functional obsolescence built into today’s vehicles and it’s a BLAST to drive.
Worth considering

I’m familiar with Gore and his house guest Willis Carrier who successfully commercialized the process...
Gore the patron saint of Florida:

I was involved in a discussion on this topic and recalled European brewers that cooled beer for some types of fermentation. IIRC they used condensing steam?
An absorption refrigerator?
But could find nothing... do you have a link?
Thanx.
—” and 5 thousand dollar headlights “
Some years back I spotted a friend in his beloved Caddy and a headlight was out.
He was aware of it and said they were about $2k EACH and was waiting to do the pair.
And save a bit?
We made it past Y2K without Crowdstrike!
But the “BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH’ still lives.
The headlights on my 2005 Jeep Wrangler are the old fashioned round type, cheap to replace, and the taillights are like the common ones found on trailers, about $40 each. I’m driving it until I croak.
Interesting, thanks...
With 410 already being banned next year it will not make much difference.
—”Only Congress can make laws.”
If only that were so!
But we can dream.
wiki heat pump

I do not mind the engine work... but the floorplan, frame undercarriage work, for me those days are gone.
