Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he was open to debating Vice President Kamala Harris, committing for the first time to at least one debate with the new presumptive Democratic nominee for president as he attacked her record on immigration and border security.
As Harris held her first official campaign event, Trump dialed into a press call alongside former and current border patrol union representatives, calling out the VP for her role as "border czar".
At the same time, Republicans in Congress sought to introduce a resolution condemning Harris for her work on the border during the Biden administration, suggesting that immigration will be a galvanizing line of attack should Harris become the official nominee.
A recent poll shows Trump is seen as better than Harris at handling immigration by a margin of 15 points.
"She's the same as Biden, [but] more radical," Trump told reporters on the call. "She's a radical person and this country doesn't want a radical left person to destroy it. She's far more radical than he is. She wants open borders. She wants things that nobody wants."
After criticizing Harris' stance on immigration, Trump said he wants to face her on the debate stage.
"I would be willing to do more than one debate, actually," the Republican candidate said. He had previously pushed for the second presidential debate — scheduled for September with ABC News as the host when President Biden was still the presumptive nominee — to be changed to a different network over what he perceived to be bias at ABC.

Lol! Newsweek seems mildly shocked, like they thought Trump would be afraid of her or something.
I don’t think he should - at least more than once. Her most vulnerable position is the Border Czar issue. But the moderators - whomever they choose - will NOT let it become the prime issue of the debate, especially if she starts off handling it badly.
I would hold off until after the convention, no use wasting time before the dust settles. If DJT is still ahead at convention time, they will toss her and select another.
the earlier the better - she is known for not studying her prep materials so her knowledge on major issues is likely to be talking points, with no depth or evidence of having processed all angles of a position. DJT should dictate moderators who will mine this deficiency. his agreement w/Joe is no longer binding.
The Biden camp set the ground rules for the first debate. As bad as they were for Trump, he still accepted and kicked Biden
s backside. The Trump camp should set the rules for the second debate.
“The Trump camp should set the rules for the second debate.”
And require that at least one of them be moderated by RSBN or RAV. Biden chose CNN. Now RPDJT gets to choose.
“Republicans in Congress sought to introduce a resolution condemning Harris for her work on the border”
I think it was more than a Resolution, i.e., impeachment (by Ogles of TN).
Big mistake to add to her rapid coronation
Definitely NO debates until she and her VP are formally nominated.
As stated on another thread concerning the legality of transferring $91 million in campaign contributions from Biden to Harris just by changing the name of the Committee, Trump should NOT be debating her until she has actually been nominated at the Democratic National Convention in August. To do so before then is to be complicit in what appears to be one massive financial fraud being perpetrated by Harris on the Democrat donors who did not intend their money to go to her. When a campaign is shut down the law says the money is to be either transferred to the Democrat Party itself or returned to the donors so they can decide which candidate to support. Neither of these options has occurred. And that cannot happen until there is a nomination. Until Harris is nominated at the Convention in August Trump should stay away from her completely. She should be an untouchable and considered as damaged goods until declared otherwise.
Please see my post #10.
All true. But IF he debates her, he gets to choose.
He should decline as Kamala was selected, NOT ELECTED.
Open debates. Zero moderators-plants.
That's been the buzz around my liberal relatives - that Trump's afraid of debating her. I just keep my mouth shut...
How do we know it is going to be Kameltoe?
If President Trump debates, he needs to set the terms.
Horizontal has the delegates
But not the voters she scares people as bad as Biden does.
If I were Trump, my going-in position would be no discussions with any sort of a ‘presumptive’ selectee until the official nomination process at the DNC has been formally completed. The debate with Biden was something different, IMO, and certainly not at the level of “Harris is a legitimate candidate, yet.”
IMO, he should have just demurred discussing it until then.
