The e-commerce leader in Europe is Amazon - but Chinese ventures into international e-commerce, for example AliExpress or more recently Temu, have made inroads.
The following infographic, via Statista's Anna Fleck, looks specifically at the example of the Chinese company Pinduoduo, drawing from ecommmerceDB figures.

According to this data, Pinduoduo will only be 13 percent behind Amazon in terms of gross merchandise volume in 2024. To put this in perspective: in 2019, Amazon's gross merchandise volume was more than twice as large as that of Pinduoduo.
Pinduoduo also owns the online marketplace Temu.
The Temu app went online in the U.S. in autumn 2022, where it went straight to number one in the download charts.
While Temu's global goods volume of around $30 billion is still quite small compared to the $389 billion of amazon.com, sales forecasts are pointing upwards.
Shortly after the release of the shopping app Temu in autumn 2022, Pinduoduo renamed itself PDD Holdings and has since served as the holding company for both platforms.
In 2023, PDD Holdings recorded record sales of $34.9 billion.
Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to sales growth of almost 90 percent, which, according to the company, is due to an increase in revenue from online marketing services and transaction services.
TEMU is not a Chinese company. The products you buy from Amazon are exactly the same as what you can get from TEMU. Sometimes the delivery from TEMU is faster and most of the time it is FREE. I always shop and compare. Sometimes Amazon wins, sometimes TEMU, sometimes EBAY, sometimes local stores. Depends on the item.
Just realize that these items come from the same source.
Totally agree with that. It's like SHOES. I wouldn't buy shoes online, no matter the cost or quality.
Frst America must reestablish basic industries like shoes and clothing and proceed from there.

We use eBay as much as possible. We often find what we’re looking for for less money and higher quality.
We also research the sellers and have found a number of American companies to support.

I figured a lot of the stuff, regardless of vendor, comes from China. That’s not really a problem for me. Heck, I still shop at Walmart. What I worry about are the stories that Temu is just a surveillance tool for the CCP. I do admit...Temu has GREAT prices.

They know what Americans want, its cheap stuff.
EBAY also specifies IF it is shipping from China. Which I always check prior to purchasing. Mostly because it can take much longer to get the item.
I can’t blame those who want inexpensive stuff. Inflation is killing a lot of people’s budgets.

- not every item is offered free shipping. When attempting to purchase multiples of an item, shipping charges are often added per item rather than by weight/ size.
Try to return a defective item. Ha! Won’t happen.
Ahhhh... TRUE, but not why you think. What happens is that they tell you to keep the item and they just refund your money because it costs them WAY MORE than the item is worth to have it shipped back.

Not groceries, there are very few grocery items that Walmart will ship so I have to buy them from Amazon.
Take a look at their breakfast cereals for example and see how few they will ship.
Good call... and Office Depot had a good sale on office chairs a couple weeks ago. I was finally able to replace my decrepit junker with something that fit me and was a good price.

There are tons of products they won’t ship, I can’t get their coffee filters or the no leak, reuse Ball jar lids I want today, it is rare that they will ship what I want.
