Wonder what the demographic makeup of said instigators are?
Same story here in NH. Where we seem to have power outages annually. I have personally bought dinners for out of state lineman. I have seen people stand on the side of the road cheering and clapping for the trucks as they passed.
Keep in mind we have power outages EVERY year. This is because we routinely have ice storms and wet heavy snow sometimes in excess of a foot. This causes trees to break and bring down the lines. Which is why I and almost everyone I know owns a generator.
Our issue is that NH is the second most forested state(as a percentage) in the country. Only Maine is more forested. Vermont is number three. They have more farms than us.
FYI, NH was 80% cleared after the Civil War. A hundred years later NH was just the opposite. 80% forested. It has only become MORE forested since. The trees just grew back all by themselves.
The other factor is that the power companies (Eversource primarily) have realized it is actually financially better for them to wait for a tree to break and bring down the power line than be proactive and trim all the trees around the lines. They marked trees in front of my house during covid(2020). They have yet to cut them down.
Two months ago a branch broke off a oak tree during a windy day and touched the ground while touching the top(HOT dangerous) wire. It started a brush fire right on the corner of my property and the road. Fortunately a passer by called 911 and the local volunteer fire department put of the fire before it got too big. It got within about 60’ of where my tractor was parked.

My younger brother was a paramedic for years in a large urban area (blue).
They were shot at, cussed, physically assaulted, etc all while trying to assist people in severe distress....after 10 years of that BS, he finally had enough and quit.
FWIW, he told me that they had to wear shoulder-length leather gloves to keep from being bitten when druggies would come around after being given Narcan. They would be totally PO’d that the medics “interrupted their trip” and would seek revenge anyway they could even when strapped down....usually trying to bite them. Insane.
Inner city types come up with all sorts of “reasons”. Paranoia is common for a couple of reasons.
Its been well over 30 years ago when the phone company I worked for lost an installation technician.
After a fire he had been replacing all the lines in an old building made into an apartment complex.
The local gang leader decided that he was taking “too long” and therefor must be a narcotics officer watching the neighborhood.
So the gang paid a 13yo kid to go shoot him the next time he came out to the truck.
Its now decades later, the gangs are more aggressive, big city PD are more lax, the drugs are stronger, and the streets are full of crazies.
Im sure theyll come up with something.
I wouldn’t care if Houston never gets its power back.
I used to live in New York City. When firemen and ambulance drivers responded to calls in the “community” it was not unusual for them to be assaulted by, shall we say, community representatives. Civil servants were mostly white because of civil service exams, and the community as a whole was relatively illiterate, and of a different ethnicity, so there was resentment because the community members assigned the disparity on racial prejudice. Thomas Sowell would differ.
Could the members of the community have been trained and performed those jobs just as well? Who knows? When I was in the Army, blacks performed perfectly well as officers and NCO’s, both as leaders and “individual contributors”. It was also true that the majority of the discipline problems were amount lower ranking minority members, who didn’t last long enough to be promoted.
So “the community” is overrepresented by its unsuccessful members, who blame their race and skin color for problems that are the result of their behavior.
NO SUPERVISION +
NO DISCIPLINE ++

But he knows he needs a small vacation.
Back when Alicia stomped thru Houston (I was there — 3 days without power in summer) hundreds of linemen were welcomed. Now, since it is a blue city everything is trashed.
Burn, baby, burn.
I think Caucasians are down to 40% in Houston/Harris County
“And I need you more than want you”...
Yes sir Mr Campbell
I wonder how many even get this
Rip Glen
Remember New Orleans post-Katrina? They were shooting at the helicopters trying to rescue people stranded on their rooftops.
The guy is a moron. The problem isn’t TEXAS, the problem is DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED CITIES.
Houston is a big old blue cancer spot in Texas. Go to ANY Democrat hell-hole and tell me this stuff doesn’t happen.
Stop bad-mouthing Texas and place your blame where it deserves.
“””””Its now decades later, the gangs are more aggressive, big city PD are more lax, the drugs are stronger, and the streets are full of crazies.”””””
That is a well written line, a nicely done single sentence description that would fit very well in a column.
Don’t forget Jimmy Webb who wrote the song and The Wrecking Crew’s Carol Kaye loaning Glen her 6-string bass to play his bridge solo.
But will the Lineman go back to Wichita?
Maybe he’ll go to Galveston.
Perhaps...but he was 21 when he left Galveston.
In ‘68, I moved to Hollywood to transfer to UCLA from UofCincy and found a job with a global oil research company w/corp office also in Hollywood.
After 4 years, they moved to Galveston and offered me a position and free tuition at Rice.
I came *that* close to going with them...but returned to Ohio.
Forget it Jake. It’s Houston.
A horrible place. Just look at their representatives.
