saying mass tourism is making the city unaffordable to residents.

What is the jist of the argument?

More than likely, it’s the *migrants* making the city unlivable.

They’re targeting the wrong group.

But Afro/Muslim invaders are OK, right?

Used to be that tourism was an economic boost to the locales?

How wonderful. We just booked a cruise to Barcelona for May! Hope it all calms down by then.
Anyway, this protest is bizarre. Why are they taking out their anger on innocent tourists?

I'd guess you're right.

When I first read the headline, I read it as protesting "terrorists', not "tourists" and I thought, good. Oops.

Maybe tourists are renting places for a month at a time above local rates? Resort towns everywhere see this drive up prices of real estate....or...they are buying property?

In the video one clip graffiti read, ‘Tourists go home, refugees welcome’. Leftards dopes. Why not have more hotels built to accommodate more tourists? Supply and demand.

Fine, more reason to NOT travel abroad. UK and France have fallen to the far left, Spain has been there for a while. Glad I’ve done my European touring already. The whole world is starting to get crazy—best to stay home, prepare, be ready.

I got to see a little Europe in the 90s.

I’m perfectly happy with staying state side.

I was there in Decembeer, 1965. There weren’t a lot of tourists, and there were no “newcomers” from Africa and the Middle East. But that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

There are areas in Spain and Portugal with largely empty villages. They like the money but not the crowds.

Do like Disney, raise prices but it is a fine line between driving most people away. May be difficult to get them back.

Renting from locals? if so, then the locals are making it unaffordable for the other locals. Prices go up. Everywhere, Always.

“Why are they taking out their anger on innocent tourists?”

Innocent? You are making it congested.

If it isn’t tourist protests, it is immigrant protests, Muslim protests, farmer protests, climate change protests, increased retirement age protests, LGBT protests. Perhaps, it is now part of the culture. I don’t think they have Black protests. You have to stay in the US for that around election time.

In my experience after living in Eastern Europe, that were popular with tourists, there are two tourists they all hate. Brits, and Norwegians. They get obnoxiously drunk and loud wherever they go. Places like Prague get packed with tour groups but they don’t upset the locals. As far as making things unaffordable companies like airbnb and veto have enabled groups to buy up every house, Fonda, and apartment in these cities so there is nothing but short term rentals.

I was in Barcelona around Easter. I stayed with a family that had three spare rooms rented via AirBnB.

The family consisted of a woman in her early 60s, a young man, and a kid about age 10. I’m pretty sure the AirBnB money kept them afloat.

The tourist areas were packed.

Park Guell was sold out the day I got there and the day thereafter.

Tourists like to stay near the center of town.

They have little economic impact on fringe housing pricing.
