If you’re in Europe, it’s now a choice that the government makes. As of July 7th, all new cars sold on the continent or in Northern Ireland have to have a mandatory speed limiter installed. The system is generally known as Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) and it’s probably going to show up on a lot of vehicles in the United Kingdom as well because the country basically shares a car market with the rest of its neighbors.
...drive 88.5 and live on the continent this is your new reality, though there are a couple of ways around it.
...“Arguably ISA will mark the beginning of the end of a world in which people choose their cars on the basis of its top speed and the time it takes to accelerate from 0 to 60mph. "It’s a sign of things to come,” he continued. “Increasingly, the car is going to decide what you can and can’t do.”

A red state?
Want to pass a vehicle? Sorry you can’t get up enough speed to do so.
“[T]he whole world, including the United States, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.” -
sounds more like a golden opportunity for a entrepreneur with mad hacking skills.
Northern Ireland is part of the UK.
Perhaps they mean the Republic of Ireland?
First time a Ferrari gets passed by an un-chipped Fiat it’s splody head time...
Yeah, pretty much.
Every car sold in the U.S. today meets California's compliance standards.
Weren’t these in cars in the US during the 1980s? I recall all cars speedometers only going up to 85.

Unlike here in the U.S. they actually drive civilized in Europe and keep right except to pass.
I’m surprised that the Germans are allowing these speed limiters since they pride themselves of the Autobahn and it’s long stretches of unlimited speed.
Not me. They will push until we push back. At some point, you have to push back.
Oh, the cars would go faster than 85, all right. You just didn’t know how much faster you were going.
Or so I’ve been told.
Many of us lived through the 55 mile an hour speed limit back in the seventies, when the cops chased us instead of the serial killers.

While I have NO DOUBT that Biden’s people will do exactly the same here, should they win the election (assuming they still let us drive) - even so, Trump is too damn brash, rude, obnoxious to vote for and so my ability to control my cars when I drive is just something I will have to live without.

Good thing all of the expensive EV’s can accelerate so quickly. Get to max and stay there until the juice runs out.
Not really sure why the lefty do-gooders hadn’t done this sooner. This and ticketing people who speed on toll roads by tracking their on and off time. Driving is a privilege. Look what they do to rights.
Once the speed limiters are in place, Ferrari announced it will implement a new sound system, audible on-demand breaking traction sounds as well as a choice race engine exhaust tones.

Yeah it was 55 mph when i got my license. Later you could legally drive “reasonable and prudent”. And now it’s 80 mph all on the same stretches of interstate. When they say “it’s not about the money.....”
