Weren’t these in cars in the US during the 1980s? I recall all cars speedometers only going up to 85.

Oh, the cars would go faster than 85, all right. You just didn’t know how much faster you were going.

Or so I’ve been told.

No the majority of cars and engines were largely not that good. 80s horsepower in cars was pretty poor by todays standards.

LOl I remember those stupid speedometers. I drove with the dial pegged I don’t know how many times.

So you just didn’t know how fast you were going past that unless you timed passing 2 mile posts. I used to bang on that peg so much in my ‘84 Trans AM that I thought the needle would be bent...
