Alec Baldwin's manslaughter trial set to begin in New Mexico The actor faces 18 months in jail if convicted of wrongdoing in the accidental killing of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021.

Nearly three years after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico film set of “Rust,” actor Alec Baldwin is set to stand trial.

Baldwin is charged with involuntary manslaughter for his role in the deadly incident that also injured the film’s director, Joel Souza.

Baldwin was rehearsing with a prop gun for a scene on Oct. 21, 2021, at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, when the gun went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

Baldwin has maintained in multiple interviews that he did not pull the trigger and that the gun misfired a bullet. Baldwin told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that he was taking direction from Hutchins and pulled the hammer back as far as he could without cocking it. But in 2022, results from FBI testing of the .45-caliber Colt prop revolver stated that the gun would not have gone off without the trigger having been pulled.

Just last month, Baldwin’s attorneys asked the judge to throw out the case, saying the firearm was badly damaged during forensic testing at the FBI lab, but the motion was denied.

If Robert Downey Jr. could serve 15 months in prison for drugs and weapon (that didn’t shoot anyone) charges, then surely Baldwin can serve 18 months for causing the death of a person.

Even at 18 months, that’s a joke IMO.

Was it intentional? Of course not, but I’ve seen people sentenced to manslaughter that got way more than that.

This story reminds me of the female police officer who shot a guy she and another officer were struggling to arrest. She meant to reach for her tazer, but accidently pulled her firearm and shot the guy dead. It was crystal clear she only meant to taze him, but she was convicted of murder.

18 months. Pffft. Our double standard justice system in action.

It was supposed to be a prop on a movie set.

One should never point a gun at someone unless you want to shoot them. I don’t know if Baldwin should be found guilty or just stupid, even though it was a stage gun, it could fire live ammo.

The problem with that outcome is that it would be an injustice in that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the on set armorer, was convicted of the same charge and is doing 18 months in state prison.

Baldwin trial problems. Court on hold for an hour because as they were about to close for the day with the trial date set the Defense informed judge that Defense was not given hundreds or even maybe thousands of documents over the course of a year though repeatedly requested for and that were due them regarding what is called ‘Discovery’ in order to prepare for their defense and give Baldwin the rights of every American a fair trial. Judge got angry, totally not happy, gave Prosecution an hour to show her what they are claiming are documents that were emails and not due Defense team because they are related to the Prosecution strategy and not info to be given. I’m sure learning stuff here watching the pre-trial. This also has been happening in the Kohberger case, and that defense claiming same. Prosecutor claimed the docs were still in investigation and info unavailable to be given, not discovered yet. I learned some of this from My Cousin Vinny, and some today.

I got interested is court proceedings as a juror and started watching court tv during the Johhny Depp trial continued with the Alec Murdaugh saga and the Rust armorer trial.

Very interesting how it all works.

If you ever get a chance, sit in on a court in session some time in your town...the every day proceedings in a local court is fastenating.

Yes, I watched all the Depp trial and some of the Murdach trial. Both were very interesting. The court system is really pretty interesting. Amazing how they go about it all.

A learning experience for sure. Good idea. Sit in on a trial. Yes that would be something. How do you go about it though, just go down and ask, do you get to see what’s on the sched and pick? What?

Yeah, I watch the JD trial with great interest. It didn’t take long to figure out what this Amber Heard was all about. She’s a manipulative liar and schemer.

Your local county court web site might have a schedule.

I’ve been looking for mine unsuccessfully do far.

But yeah, you can probably just walk in to the courthouse go through the metal detector and sit in a court gallery.

Yes, America must open court rooms to the public while a trial is being conducted. It is a civil right for all of us. I don’t know if AB will take a plea bargain or not. If I was in his shoes I sure would.

And I hope Baldwin serves longer than 18 months, I hope he gets life without parole.
