Here’s how the process to replace Biden works if he withdraws

Amid rising pressure for President Biden to withdraw from the race, questions are looming over the mechanics of getting another Democrat on the ballot ahead of November.

Democrats do have a path forward: The filing deadline for the party to get their presidential candidate on the ballot in most states hasn’t been met yet, and there are avenues within the party over how to choose a new candidate if need be.

Much of the chatter over Biden’s fate for now is speculation, as the president and his campaign maintain he is committed to running for another term. Still, some Democrats have expressed uncertainty over his electoral chances against Trump in November, while others have called for him to drop out immediately, injecting uncertainty into an already chaotic election cycle.

Here’s what to know about the rules governing a new Democratic presidential pick:

How does the process work?

Typically, the Democratic presidential candidate is officially selected at the Democratic National Convention, but this year’s presidential nominating process is set to look a little different.

Democrats are holding a virtual roll call in response to earlier concerns that the president wouldn’t be able to get his name on the November ballot in Ohio ahead of the state’s filing deadline. In Ohio, Democrats initially needed to submit the name of their candidate to the state 90 days before the election, which is Aug. 7 this year. That’s earlier than when the DNC begins, which kicks off Aug. 19.

It wasn’t the first time this year that Democrats had run into a filing deadline problem. In Alabama, the issue was settled quickly after the state agreed to change its filing deadline, while Washington state accepted a provisional certification.

Trump has a problem. The debate ended up with most people agreeing that Biden lost. That Biden is senile. And that he needs to step down. But while we all agree with that. They also slid in two other points. One is that Trump too is old. They said that two old men were debating and that was the problem. Trump is fine. But that is not the message on the news shows, even Fox. The other issue they slid in there is that Trump lied 28 times. This is not true. But Dems aren’t allowed to hear certain facts. So when Trump says them, they must be lies. No, there are not more people flowing over our southern border and sleeping in our parks. And, gas has always been this expensive. MacDonald’s Egg Mcmuffin has always been $9 dollars. They believe. We should not give in to either of these points. Because a new person will replace Joe soon. And they will be younger and say new things. Trump did not lie. And Trump has far more energy than than most people 30 years younger. There is no need to concede these points just because Dems live in a Barbie world. We should not.

Step 1. Biden resigns as President.

Step 2. Kamala Harris becomes President

Step 3. Trump beats Harris and becomes President.

Ignoring/breaking state laws on ballot access will be the root of the ‘24 steal. The dates to change the ballot has passed in some states, Wisconsin included.

In Wisconsin, I think the rules state Biden must stay on the ballot, but his votes won’t be counted.

The ballot rules were notably enforced in Missouri recently when Claire McCaskill “won” the seat for her dead husband.

“One is that Trump too is old.”

Interesting. I could see them putting someone younger in there and pitching the situation as a learning opportunity for all of America.

“But Dems aren’t allowed to hear certain facts.”

I think we’ve been giving these folks the benefit of doubt for too long. They aren’t stupid, they are evil. Their eyes are wide open, always have been. Good people have a hard time admitting that in others. It’s uncouth.

My thoughts:
Biden will not quit nor be allowed to resign.
The powers that be will allow him to run out the clock and go thru with the election come November. That way when he loses the problem of what to do with Kamala is also solved.
Dems are resigned to a near certain win by Trump. They will then run a full boat balls out resistance against Trump. And much worse than they did during his first term.

“He Lies” is the potent message being put forth.

The faithful will glom on to that lie and proceed to vote Democrat and feel good about it.

Black Africa voters need only a token to continue to vote for the sugar tit

I am looping in libloather as I think the two of you are spot on in this analysis

1. As to the pardon issue can all future crimes be covered in a pardon?
2. This is very much 1984. The 28 lies and old man is subtly being interjected and you know… we have always been at war with Oceania

Scary time to those who discern

If...when...Biden steps down, if there are any states with rules that would preclude a replacement candidate on the ballot, they will just convene to pass a law changing the rules. Dems are good at ad hoc.

All good thoughts. The only problem is the donkeys calling for him to leave are out of self preservation. They are the most vulnerable to defeat and the down ticket on this one may not permit a formidable resistance.

Biden is staying. He is and will be the nominee. The Dems will steal the election again witness the reinstatement of drop boxes and ballot harvesting in WI.
