For all the changes we've seen in weapon systems, the role of humans as the key decision makers when it comes to the use of force has remained.
But what happens when machines develop to the point where they are increasingly able to perceive the battlefield and make that decision for themselves.
As the AI rush plays out, compute becomes cheaper and battlefield pressures play out, nations may face increasing pressure to unleash autonomous systems from their human handlers. So in this episode we discuss the potential of these systems, some of the advantages and pressures that might drive their development...and what the prospect for international regulation might be before the killer robots start to take the field in significant numbers.

My God, that narrator has the most annoying voice I’ve ever heard. Is that a computer-generated voice? Intonations, pauses, pronunciations, accents, etc are all off somehow.
I could only take 15 seconds of that.

Tangled rope and garden hoses stops autonomous robots in their tracks. So does urethane polymer sprayed at them.

Your aw juss pwejudithed againsth peepuw wiff a lithsp.
Lisping is the new black because it shows you’re down with the LGBTASDFJKL; shtruggle.
They’re on the majority of radio and TV adverts, and it makes what they’re (mis-)saying vewy difficult to understand for those of us with hearing impairments.
I won’t listen to them. Ever. The instant I notice a lithsp, I change the channel. Always. Not out of spite for people with speech impediments but I have nothing but spite for people who piss down my leg and then try to convince them it’s raining.

2nd amendment guarantees my right to have autonomous fighting robots, and anyone who disagrees can take it up with my robot army... I mean well-regulated militia.

Clutch your pearls all you want, autonomous combat robots are coming. For starters, "wing man" autonomous fighters to accompany (and protect) manned fighter-jets, as well as "wing man" autonomous tanks to team up with manned tanks.
Foster-Miller (among others) has been working on an autonomous version of it's "Talon" remotely-operated small tracked vehicle since the Oughties. When your enemy arrays autonomous infantry robots against you, common sense dictates you don't meet them with flesh-and-blood soldiers.
You do realize "Terminator" wasn't a documentary, don't you?
