I thought I heard that NASA did a lot of their computations in base 12 math, in which pi is a rational number. And I heard that decades ago.

For god’s sakes, please stop calling it string “theory”. It’s “String Hypothesis” until there is a repeatable falsifiable experiment proving it. A dry erase board is not an experiment.

“Pi” - a very interesting Kate Bush song off of her Ariel album.

Never did say what they “discovered”. Near worthless but lengthy article. I don’t think we actually know pi is indeterminate but for all practical purposes it is.

The number represented by “Pi” could be expressed as 22 divided by 7, which is a reasonably good expression for simple low-resolution mathematics. Anyway, that is what I was taught in third grade.
Pie are squared. No, no, Pie are round.

… mathematicians have struggled for centuries to calculate the number accurately, leading to Pi being classified as irrational.

I know less now than before reading the article. 3.14159265358973 should be close enough for any calculation needed in the visible or invisible universe. Should get you within a millimeter for a diameter of a million kilometers.
If there’s a mathematician or physicist out there, please verify.

The value of PI has been calculated to literally TRILLIONS of digits of precision.
It hasn't repeated yet. Trillions of digits. It's "irrational", folks, just accept that. :-)
When my daughter was very young, she and I memorized PI to 14 decimal places (3.14159265358979). That was fun, and we both still know it (she's 30, I'm 72).

HORSE POOP. It's only a "mystery" to people who don't understand the concept of an irrational number.
Clickbait, unfortunately.
