The main reason to calculate pi to trillions of decimals is to calibrate supercomputers.
Using a couple of different methods, they calculate pi to see how quick and accurate they are.

In 1760, Johann Heinrich Lambert was the first to prove pi is irrational. The Mathologer (Monash University mathematics professor Burkard Polster) has a YouTube animated version of Lambert's proof.

Pi is not the ratio of two integers (whole numbers).
The circumference : diameter is a ratio and equal to pi, but the circumference and diameter cannot both be integers.

Egyptians didn’t know how to draw a circle.They drew meatballs. But they knew how to build a pyramid with precision up to 1/1000 of an inch. Sure they did. They worshipped a beetle that pushed balls of manure around all day. They wore manure balls held by the beetle on their royal crowns. Sure they built the Great Pyramid. No doubt whatsoever.
