An eight-year-old girl who was traveling with her parents on a SkyWest Airlines flight to Chicago died suddenly after becoming unresponsive.
Despite “aggressive resuscitative efforts” by medical staff to save the girl’s life, she was pronounced dead upon landing.
Sydney Weston was lying with her family from Joplin when she suffered a medical emergency, forcing the flight to reroute to Peoria, Illinois.
Flight personnel began “rapidly rendering aid” to the girls, according to Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
The plane made an emergency landing at General Wayne A Downing Peoria International Airport at 7.02am on Thursday.
Medical staff began performing “life-saving measures” upon landing, according to a statement from the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.
“Upon landing in Peoria, she was not breathing and had no pulse,” the coroner’s office said.
“Despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, she was pronounced deceased at 8:05 am this morning,” the coroner’s office said in its statement.
“We appreciate the efforts of our crewmembers who responded quickly to assist and the medical personnel who met the aircraft,” a SkyWest spokesperson told the New York Post.
The autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, and findings will be released upon completion, the coroner’s office said.
“Please keep the child’s family and everyone who was involved in this traumatic experience in your thoughts and prayers,” the sheriff’s office said.
The girl’s death comes just days after another American died mid-flight.
On Saturday, Raiznal Farzad Khalik, 41, “encountered a medical condition” during a flight to San Francisco onboard a Fiji Airways flight from Nadi, Fiji.
Khalik was pronounced dead by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.
“Despite the best efforts of our cabin crew and a doctor on board who provided immediate assistance, the passenger unfortunately passed away,” Fiji Airways said in a statement.
The airline added, “We commend our cabin crew and the assisting doctor for their swift and professional response to this emergency.”
How horrible for the parents to lose their child like that - and having to watch it unfold in front of their eyes at 35,000’.
Fauci knows why.
When was her last booster?
Either we’re more sensitive to these types of events compared to the past, or they are happening more often. Regardless of the reason, truly horrible for the parents to live through.
“Regardless of the reason, truly horrible for the parents to live through.”
If she was given the clot shot, then the parents have only themselves to blame, and it sucks to be them.
If the death were due to some other reason, then, yes; it will be horrible for them.
So many odd things are happening. A two-year-old whose extended family week goes to our church has cancer in his bicep. (Mom got the vax.) A 14-year-old girl has ovarian cancer. (Got the shot.)
Our Prayer List is getting weirder and weirder.
...suddenly...
That sounds like Deep Vein Thrombosis. I pop an aspirin before every flight.
Vaxx might be the way to bet, but I’m holding out for a ruptured brain aneurysm, triggered by the lower cabin pressure in the aircraft (flight at 35,000, cabin pressurized to 10,000, flight started at 1,000 ft in Joplin, MO)
We’re grasping at straws for something unexpected...
DVT isn’t typical on shorter flights (this one was 4 hrs, no tellling how long into flight she became ill/irresponsive), especially for kids.
“If she was given the clot shot, then the parents have only themselves to blame, and it sucks to be them.”
A good day to you, too ...
The medical field has been baffled ever since the government has stuck their nose in Health Care.
Just imagine having both pilots on the same airline flight having medical emergencies that prevent them from flying the aircraft. What you do?
[flight started at 1,000 ft in Joplin, MO]
It’s 1,000 ft above sea level? Wow. I learn something new every day.
Too many drugs? Steroids? Unhealthy lifestyle? Or something we’re not allowed to mention?
I’d step right in and fly the plane.
Then we would all die in a huge airplane crash.
Inflate the autopilot ?
[What you do?]
Shoot the hostage? Oh, wait, I thought this was Keanu Reeves movie...
