The composition of the intestinal flora can predict the chances of developing serious infections such as pneumonia. Researchers followed more than 10,000 people for six years. More than 600 people who had less healthy intestinal flora developed a serious infection, with this leading in some cases to death.
The 602 people who were hospitalized due to an infection showed at the start of the study that they had fewer butyrate-producing bacteria in their microbiome. Butyrate is a small fatty acid that is known to have a positive impact on the immune system of mice. It has also been seen before that people with serious infections have fewer of these bacteria.
The researchers wanted to know whether, just like in mice, butyrate also has a beneficial effect on the immune system in humans. The study analyzed stool samples from more than 10,000 people.
The researchers analyzed 16 bacteria that make butyrate during the fermentation of dietary fiber. Humans can't digest fiber on their own, but these bacteria can. The 602 patients who were hospitalized during the six-year follow-up study had significantly fewer of these butyrate-producing bacteria in their gut compared to the remaining people in the two cohorts.
"We saw that in people who have 10% more of those bacteria in their gut, the chance of getting an infection decreases by as much as 15 to 25%," says Kullberg. Thus, the microbiome is involved in infections outside the gut, such as lung and bladder infections. The analyses considered factors such as age, history of antibiotic use, and underlying diseases that influence gut microbiota composition and infection risk.
Butyrate thus improves the defense against infections outside the intestines. This finding emphasizes the importance of a healthy microbiome and opens doors to predicting the risk of a serious infection for each individual.

You can increase what butyrate-producing bacteria you have by eating more soluble fiber. Women need at least 28 grams a day and men need at least 30-38 grams a day, depending on age.
Keto/low carb breads and bagels are a great way to do this.
I’m assuming two kale smoothies with 16hrs of intermittent fasting a day covers it.
There will be a significant increase of donor fecal injections into the butt to help fix the gut bacteria. It’s already happening I just see it happening more.

U.S. health officials on Wednesday approved the first pill made from healthy bacteria found in human waste to fight dangerous gut infections — an easier way of performing so-called fecal transplants.
Well snaking in from the lower to upper colon would not be easy. A pills is much easier.
Ten years ago, the average American barely thought about gut bacteria, unless they came down with diarrhea.
Now, it is being linked to everything.
Most surprising to me - the link between gut bacteria and brain and neurological health.
I will wait for the oral capsules.
I continue to cling to my old fashioned belief that my bottom is an Exit Door, not an Entrance Door.
So, you are personally witnessing this more. How does this happen? I don't want to be exposed to this scenario and wish to avoid it.
Thank you.
Your right, I was writing metaphorically, not a direct view inaction. 😝
