Just wondering what would happen if FR ceased to exist. Talk about a lifestyle change. Inflation is roaring and taking a trip is much more costly. Groceries - fegedaboudit. Brandonomics is hitting everyone very hard. And that's even before buying that very first mandatory EV! Times are tough for everyone.
The ads will slow down the site.
Without ads, these pages load quickly with low overhead.
(Also due to the careful crafting of this FR site architecture.)
FR works when many others do not, especially when bandwith is limited, or when using a device with minimal features (like an old out of date tablet for example), or when on the road or out of town using hotspots.
“Threatened” with ads, I would bump up donations instead.
Accepting a few ads from sites/products freepers would have an interest to help keep FR financially afloat would have absolutely NO impact on format.
charge a fee to post articles/vlogs/blogs/ vanities about the end of times.
free to browse.
You may not know how advertising works; but it is almost always a package deal where a producer with enough capital to set up all the required networking and person-power will need to serve more than one client. Hence they develop and will require a subscriber to accept a variety of content, label it "conservative" but then objectionable content often slips through, and it's virtually impossible to speak to a live customer rep, so too many complaints ends up with cyber jail or being dumped. It's like cable television: you can't just pick the channels you want. It might end up costing FR more in moderators to moderate ad content.
