Six Things I Wish I Had Known Before I Went Bald
Men's Health ^ | 4/24/24 | Stuart Heritage

I have been bald for almost three years. Some people – primarily my brother – will tell you that I have actually been bald for much longer than that, but I like to count from the moment I realised it was pointless to pretend that I still had hair. The moment I stopped trying to keep it in place with chemical sprays. The moment I abandoned the comb-over. It has been almost three years since I bought an electric razor from Argos and buzzed the whole lot off.

I don’t know; but I been told, by a bald guy, you can’t have hair and brains both. Something to do with evolution; apes ain’t usually bald...I wonder if Einstein wore a rug?

At a family reunion I was talking to my cousin, when a family member made a comment about his baldness. Without missing a beat his reply was “The more hair I lose, the more head I get”. She quickly walked away,

I believe the major cause of hair loss on top is due to headboards, and along the sides is due to thighs.

Male pattern baldness is caused by extra testosterone.

Have to take< the bad with the good.

It seem once a male grows older, the face gets all the hair.

I have cut my head bald nearly 3 years ago, before that I had white hair and not much balding at all. It was a style move, also laziness. I look younger. I absolutely love the bald head, so easy to maintain.

I’m not completely bald, just on top. But I keep the rest short.

I will say that Michael Jordan did change people’s attitude about being bald. It became less of a stigma.

I started losing my hair when I was 21. Some women have told me they like it. I wear a boonie hat when I’m out doing chores so I don’t get sunburned. Bald and proud here!

I had a full head of hair until I was about 55. Then it suddenly got thin. So I got an electric clipper and gave myself a buzz cut.

I can't believe I waited that long.

I love it. No fuss, no muss. It looks clean and feels great.

I think a lot of men would love it because it's manly...but it takes that first step.

/sigh   I was in the USAF.   The buzz cut in Air Force Basic was enough for me.   They called us "Pingers" in our "pickle suits" because if you ever got a chance to stand still for a minute, you could hear your hair go ping when it finally it popped out of your scalp.   I'd rather have a Ben Franklin than having to shave my head.

My younger brother had a career in the USAF and is a total chrome dome now.   It really jacks me up though when I comb my hair the same way it was when Dad combed my hair for Sunday school in the late 1950's, but now suddenly it is a comb over.   Come to think of it, I've had my hair down my back a couple of times through more than fifty years and my brother never did.

Sorry, I’m going to fight it ‘til my dying day.

You and me both. I'm using rogain and a shampoo and conditioner that are supposed to fight off baldness.

I'm going to keep my silver locks as long as I can.

IIRC it’s caused by your hair follicles being extra sensitive to testosterone, not by high testosterone levels per se. That sensitivity is determined by your genes.

In 1957, after 6-years served, I was discharged from the Marine Corps...

Kept my Marine hairstyle, initially, but when I entered NYU at Washington Square in Sept 1957, the queers and hippies living in the village treated me as though I was some evil bastard sent to kill them all...

The only solution was to let my hair grow & grow & grow...
By 1958, I was no longer ostracized, although my Atilla the Hun tendencies still scared the crap out of most physics students... Particularly the japs and chicoms...

Getting married in 1960 finally got me to go with regular haircuts... From then on and all through graduate school, my wife cut/trimmed my hair...

Now at 90, the hair is thinner, but shaggy like Albert Einstein’s in most of his later photos...

My wife still offers to cut or trim it...
No thanks! Who would want an 86 year old barber with poor eyesight messing with their hair...

Me. 1976. Me. 50 pounds ago.

I could still rock an afro today if I wanted to.

I had super long hair in the 1970s - sort of like “Welcome Back Kotter” era John Travolta. Then I joined the Marines and that was the end of that. After some 40+ years, I started growing it again during the COVID era. I’m in my 60s and now have hair down to my shoulders. Not expected in a guy my age so I get a bit of attention. My father died at age 86 with a full head of hair so I guess I have no worries about going bald.
