A blast from the past!
1:05 VIDEO AT LINK.
I'd buy that !
We just paid $2000 for a new LG fridge that I hate..........
And it was ‘Made In The USA’.
A couple years ago an appliance repairman’s advice to us was to hang on to your old appliances. They are better made and more reliable than the newer ones.
Same with washers and dryers. I bought a used set of Kenmore washer and dryer in 1984. They were easily 10 years old then. I used them for another 15 years.
That seems to be true.
We have lived in our present home for 22 years come July 1.
In that time we have had 3 refrigerators, two stoves, two dishwasers, three microwaves, three washing machines and three dryers..................
Still have a 1982 Kenmore. I attribute that to vacuuming the coils and near the motor fan yearly. Won’t die! (much to the chagrin of wifey, who’d prefer a “modern” one). Oh, I did replace the gasket, about 10 years ago.
As planned, by the product designers, engineers, ...
Most things made today are garbage. I had a dehumidifier in my basement that worked correctly for about 20 years before it finally died. New one lasted about 3 years, now I have replaced it again. Same with an electric unit heater, first one - 23 years. The replacement unit is already failing.
Try hooking up a 1950s phone.
You won’t believe how crisp and clear the sound is.
We have a Kenmore chest freezer that is now over 40 years old. Sadly, the bottom inside is starting to rust.
Fiberglass it.....................
I’m on the 3rd washing machine and 2nd furnace.
Dishwasher went and I researched. Bought a Swedish brand made to last 20 years. It’s all metal. I guess we’ll see. I mean I won’t. They’ll come for me before then heh.
I have a Bosch dishwasher, highly recommended. 10 years old, detergent drawer hasn’t worked for 8 years, doesn’t drain fully at end of cycle. Doesn’t do a great job. Have to clean filter often, New one would be worse probably..
Meanwhile I work for someone with a 30 year old dishwasher that is louder but cleans perfectly. No filter to clean. Probably uses three times as much water which is why it works. Dials not buttons and chips.
I wish I had taken my mother’s 40 year old dishwasher when we cleared her house.
Are dials really more expensive than buttons and chips? I hate them on DWs, washing macines,cars...
I love my old Speed Queen washer. I bypassed the coin box and hot-wired it. It’s been running since 1986.
I don’t buy smart appliances, thermostats, and will not have a smart electric meter on my home if I can avoid it.
There are already enough spies watching me without my paying them to be in my home.
Take some time and browse this FB Group run by former Freeper ‘Junk Bond’ there are lots of post about how Smart things are out to collect your data.

the new he washers are crap...i have to wash my clothes twice...and I use Tide.
Almost all appliances today are junk compared to those sold in the 60s and 70s - and earlier.
A truly smart refrigerator would be one that lasts 50 years. Stuff like that, you should buy once and not have to worry about shelling out 2 weeks’ pay for another in 10 years.
For a real thrill, look at the junk they’re passing off as dehumidifiers. Nearly all of them are foreign-made and are junk.
We got a new Samsung French door fridge which I hate too. Not even a year old, and the seals for the two doors are already tearing apart.
Maybe instead of “energy star”, they ought to have a rating called “durability star”. Although I really don’t want the government getting involved. Because whatever it is now, government makes it worse. It’s what they do.
Our 4 year old $3500 GE Cafe smart fridge has already been repaired once. Our GE Cafe microwave is in the shop right now getting it’s second control panel in two years replaced. But, hey, they look great and the wife is happy...
We do like the hot water feature on the fridge, though. Fast and easy for oatmeal, hot coco, and when the grandson is over, it makes for getting bottles ready fast.
