I bought my first Stetson just before Urban Cowboy came out. I was working in the desert and needed to protect my face and neck. It was $20. By the end of summer, the same hat was $100.
Made it tough on real cowboys, or those of us who used cowboy hats for work.
FWIW, I switched to Tilley hats about 15 years ago. All cotton, run around $50-60.

This western wear trend is a good thang. Even black cowboys are seen as real Americans.
