Kabosu, the dog behind the "doge" meme, has died after 14 years of internet fame, her owner has said. The Japanese shiba inu inspired a generation of online jokes and became the face of Dogecoin cryptocurrency. She had been suffering from leukaemia and liver disease and died on 24 May. "She quietly passed away as if asleep while I caressed her," Atsuko Sato wrote on her blog, thanking Kabosu's fans. "I think Kabo-chan was the happiest dog in the world. And I was the happiest owner." As a rescue dog, Kabosu's real birthday was unknown, but Ms Sato estimated her age at 18.

The owner’s love for her dog might feel just as real and powerful as her love for person, sometimes even moreso.

We had a Shiba Inu 20 or so years ago. Good dogs. Ours was a bit aloof. We called him a cat-dog.
That is very true. The death of a beloved pet that has been with a family for a long time is the saddest. The death of a gentle loving pet brings a sadness that is engulfing. Psychologists say our strongest emotion is grief. You may hate some one intensely. You may love someone intensely. But the experts say grief overshadows and outlast those feelings.
