The officer had to undergo surgery and is on the road to recovery.

A Texas police officer suffered a bite from an alligator after attempting to remove it from the road.

Cleveland, TX Police Department

An officer with the Cleveland Police Department is recovering after suffering a nasty bite from a huge alligator he was helping to corral. Sgt. David Edwards was helping officers and Liberty County sheriff's deputies remove the 10-feet-long alligator from the middle of the roadway on State Highway 105 bypass near U.S. 59 around midnight on Wednesday. As Edwards helped other officers attempting to place a noose on the fearsome reptile's mouth to drag it off the road, the alligator bit down on his left wrist.

As a result of the attack, Edwards suffered broken bones and lacerations, according to the police department. Photos shared by the police department show a deep laceration above his left wrist. The bite force of the average alligator jaw has been measured to exert around 2,000 pounds of pressure, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

Officers worked to remove an alligator on the road on the State Highway 105 bypass near U.S. 59.

Cleveland Police Department cted in East and Central Texas as floodwaters continue to recede.

They don’t bite as bad if you put a .9mm round in their head first. Just sayin.

If only it had been a Chihuahua or a Maltese, the cop could have shot it and spared himself injury.

Police have to round up the Gators?
I thought there would have been some Animal Removal Service with trained people. Ouch! That must have hurt.
Maybe he gets a whole seven days off to recover.

They need Florida Man from JAX, the alligator wrangler who made the news a couple weeks ago.

I think they need to relocate a few hundred of those gentle, herpetofauna creatures down to the Rio Grande River. “Come on in boys, the water’s fine.”

That was some good wrangling. I’m guessing this guy has been handling gators most of his life. There seemed to be zero fear or hesitation from him.
He had an advantage in that this looked like a young gator, not yet grown to full size. All the police wisely stood back and let the wrangler do his thing.

They don’t bite at all if you whack them on the shoot with a broom. They skidaddle.

That whole story was fun and good...the guy shows up with no shoes, a flannel shirt with the sleeves cut off, bulging biceps, and looked like Larry The Cable Guy who jumped out of a car stopped in traffic to save the day, but was actually a well trained and experienced animal control officer who knew just what he was doing.

When he grabbed the jaws of the alligator and held them together, pulling them up to his chest while he pulled a roll of tape from his breast pocket and used his teeth to pull a strip off so he could wrap the snout, I laughed.

I am notoriously bad with things like one-handed duct tape removal, and I always make a mess and am unsuccessful.

I told my wife, if that had been me wrangling that gator, I would have screwed up with the tape, gotten completely distracted when the tape stuck to itself and I tried to fix it, and I would have ended up rolling on the ground with the alligator in my arms and my hand in its mouth!

That was certainly NOT his first rodeo!

Loved when he was holding the gator with one hand / arm, and trying to get his tape started with the other. Cops didn’t even step in to help with THAT! LOL
