Many many moons ago when I lived in Florida, armadillos were everywhere, and everyday I would see armadillo road kill.
I know this article is almost 9 years old, but where have all the armadillos gone?

Armadillos have been associated with leprosy for years. And years.

I’m surprised that “climate change” was not blamed. Good grief, science-challenged liberals, get back to what you’re worst at.

Yeah, I’ll bet it’s from armadillos.
Just lump it in with them measles and TB outbreaks and God knows what else. That’s more likely your source.

Yup.
Armadillos are spreading.
First experience in my honeymoon in the South. Along with fire ants.
My theory is armadillos are spreading after the ants which are also spreading. Not supposed to be a major part of diet but it’s awfully strange….

Mycobacterium leprae can only be grown in armadillo footpads.

When I drove from Tucson to NH I discovered a new geographic feature/marker which I named the A/R boundary.
It’s a sharp divide (like the Wallace line or the Hajnal line) where on one sid dog the line 90% of roadkill are armadillos (A) and on the other side 90% of the dead animals are raccoons (R).
Hence the A/R boundary. If I ever publish it maybe it will be called the Noble line.

Don’t we get these armadillo leprosy warning on rather a frequent basis these days?

They’re roadkill across the southeast. I see them into KY now. We cooked out burgers with neighbors about a month ago at their place - their neighbor had one wandering around his yard at dusk. This in N. GA.
If they show up here I may have to get a nice high-powered air gun.

Armadillos, not illegal aliens, never illegal aliens, yeah,
that's the ticket!
All we have to do is report total leprosy cases, never differentiate between the armadillo and human strains!
We got this!
