As if there weren’t enough infectious diseases to worry about, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing a warning about a new strain of leprosy — and pinning the blame on, of all creatures, armadillos.
It’s long been known that armadillos harbor one particular strain of leprosy that has occasionally been transmitted to humans. But now, researchers say they’ve discovered armadillos in the southeastern US with a new genotype of leprosy bacteria. It’s also turning up in human patients, where it can cause skin and nerve damage

Don’t we get these armadillo leprosy warning on rather a frequent basis these days?
According to the book “Alas Babylon” they taste like lamb.
I smell Fauci.
It’s rare to see them just hanging around. Like moles, they’re busy excavating.
They’re roadkill across the southeast. I see them into KY now. We cooked out burgers with neighbors about a month ago at their place - their neighbor had one wandering around his yard at dusk. This in N. GA.
If they show up here I may have to get a nice high-powered air gun.
I spent most of my early years in LA and TX. ‘Dillars
abounded and it was a night time activity to get your
gun, head light and go dillar hunting.
I knew a guy who shot one with bird shot. It just bounced off the armadillo.
So have I.
Oh, so it’s armadillos exposing kids to TB in publik skrewls...
And to others in migrant shelters...
Uh huh.
I never saw one till 1970 road kill south of the Arkansas river in Oklahoma. Now they are everywhere here even into Missouri and Kansas.
Boy, do those li’l guys get around!
Wrong bug, but I’m sure they’ll get around to blaming some critter for TB..
In the meantime ..
Time for armadillo control!
Funny, nowhere on that link on countries with highest number of leprosy cases is any mention of armadillos...
From last year...
Gee, FL must be up to its armpits in...armodillos.
All we have to do is report total leprosy cases, never differentiate between the armadillo and human strains!
We got this!
I don't remember that particular passage. Did Two Tone say it?
Why did the chicken cross the road? To show the armadillo it could be done. Thank you, I’ll be here all night...
I honestly do not remember. Sorry.
