Civil rights groups are calling for the collapsed Baltimore bridge to be renamed when it's rebuilt, citing accusations of racism against national anthem author Francis Scott Key.
Leaders argued that the The Star-Spangled Banner author -who the collapsed bridge was named after - was a slave owner who wrote lyrics that scholars have said 'demeaned black people.'
They have asked for the bridge to be renamed after late congressman Parren J Mitchel, the first black man from Maryland elected to the US House of Representatives.

There is one mention of “slave” in “The Star-Spangled Banner”, and I believe it refers to some Maryland slaves who escaped and tried to board British ships during the War of 1812. Some were caught and returned to slavery. Others were promised emancipation by the British if they took up arms on the British side. Yeah, we know there were slaves then — a legacy of our British colonial past. The ones Key mentions fought on the side of the enemy of the United States. One can hardly expect that he would be charitable toward them. There is also mention of “hirelings” — would they have been mercenaries? Key is uncharitable toward both, saying they wouldn’t be saved “from the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.”
The reason Black Africans were enslaved by other Black Africans is because they were inferior, unequal.
That fact is irrelevant to the naming of a bridge for a truly famous nonblack American

After the bridge “collapsed” as a ship was passing under it according to the fake news “media”, some Messican ambassador was whining that it was HIS PEOPLE who died. Then the burrito had the nerve to say, “That’s why “latinos” will rebuild it. A few days later I read an article in which the reporter was interviewing some Mexican construction guys. It was unanimous, “We AREN’T going to build it because it’s too dangerous”. I love it.

And that right there pretty much sums up “American exceptionalism”. It took mostly whitey Europeans with strong work ethics and a fearless, courageous character ... that cared enough to risk danger, work harder and struggle longer in order to build a better place than what they came from... ie to make America what it is today.
Most (not all) of these idiots coming here intend to suck off of the US taxpayer teat and couldn’t care less about making this nation better than where they’re from. They’re parasites. Parasites replacing the host, in fact. It’s never gonna work towards anything but killing the host. But then, since when has the Marxist left (commies) ever had the intelligence enough to figure out that obvious end result... much less to care about it. Look at the dismal history of communism and the lives of the people they’ve enslaved.
And then there are the ones ‘within’ that hate America and are deliberately working and seeking to destroy us with the help of all these “newcomer” parasites. There needs to be an IRL reckoning. Normally I would say there will be... but these days I have my doubts.
How about renaming the bridge, “FU Civil Rights Leaders Bridge?”
Only if you promise not to rebuild it, and leave the original approaches standing in the river.
Also, the Carol Swain Bridge or the Robert Woodson Bridge.
I also think the Thomas Sowell Bridge has a nice ring to it.
Better yet, the Walter Williams Bridge, since he passed in 2020.
