It is a truth universally acknowledged that all sane and decent people like, if not love, Dolly Parton. Another universal truth is that Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” is one of the greatest country songs ever written. But one of the truths of life in 2024 is that modern pop culture degrades everything it touches. Nothing more clearly illustrates that fact than Beyoncé’s aggressively “girl boss” version of Parton’s classic song. It’s a travesty and a metaphor for so much of the damage leftism has inflicted on the world.
The original Dolly Parton song sees Parton begging the breathtakingly beautiful Jolene to leave Dolly’s man alone. Dolly shares her utter despair as she sees the love of her life fall desperately in love with Jolene.
The worst thing of all, from Dolly’s perspective is that Jolene doesn’t even love the man Dolly loves so much. Instead, Jolene’s acts are from ego, not love: “Please don’t take him just because you can.”
Unspoken in the song is the fact that Dolly’s love is so deep and true (“I could never love again, He’s the only one for me”) that she might even sacrifice him for true love…but Jolene just offers a narcissistic simulacrum.
Thus, the core point of the song is that there are women so egotistical and narcissistic that they are incapable of love. Or rather, they are incapable of loving anybody but themselves. Naturally, this gets us straight to Beyoncé.
Normally, Beyoncé is associated with generic pop songs, and she’s very good at them. I don’t like her, but she’s won a bazillion Grammys, sells out stadiums, and has a devoted following. She’s also a very beautiful woman.
Having conquered the realm of pop, Beyoncé is now ready to conquer new worlds. Apparently, country music was just sitting there...

A Great cover pays homage to the original while becoming a new song in its own way.
Summertime Blues by The Who, You Really Got Me by Van Halen, any Dylan tune by Hendrix, Satisfaction by Devo, Whitney and I’ll Always Love You, and Johnny Cash’s Hurt. I’d even put In Luke Combs and Fast Car…these are the Great gold standards.
A terrible cover is forgettable.. The Gal Godot-led Imagine cover during the lockdown and Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Marilyn Manson reign supreme here.
The rest of them…well…range from nice to whatever.
This cover is not nice, but it’s not whatever for me. I will say, that the video is worse than the audio.
Ha!
I’m waiting for her and Jay-Z to be caught in a similar raid that happened to Diddy.
Did she make it lame and gay?
Because that happened some five or six years ago.
I have seen A LOT of rumors about Beyonce doing just that. Dolly is a powerhouse who could fight back and thus maybe why she has been given full writing credit even though Beyonce really changed up the words
How come Led Zeppelin didn’t bother to take revenge on Pat Boone’s songs for his version of STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN?

Parton wished this song into existence saying she wished Beyonce would do the song but with a more updated way of thinking.
Of course, this might just have been a shrewd business move because she know how much she would make on it...but whatever the case...she has gotten 100% credit and she will make a ton of money.
The bigger question is why did Bey give her all the credit when probably more than 50% was rewritten. I dont know anything about the business but that much of a rewrite likely should have co-writing credits.
this picture of him is a hoot

I have seen some of the Kennedy Honors for led zepplin. most of it sounded like crap compared to the original but Heart did a fantastic job on Stairway to Heaven. the chorus wore the Bowler hats.
Yo Yo Ma was shown a couple of times really digging the whole thing with his eyes closed.
Lefist Dolly Parton will charge you with a hate crime for not liking Beyonce’s version better ....
Beonce IS the “Jolene” about whom Dolly is singing!!
Boom!
Beyonce IS the “Jolene” of whom Dolly is singing!!
Boom!
Beyoncé and her husband are demons . Part of the demon cult of WhollyWeird.
John Bonham was probably rolling in his grave, hopefully laughing, when that album was released.
I loved it. Great version!
That is a perfect song
The country/blue-grass group, “Little Willies featuring Norah Jones” does a GREAT version of Jolene - a more plaintive pleading to Jolene.
Here’s a live rendition...

All I can say is that compared to all the others, Beyonce’s version is flat, flat, flat.
